Pressure tanks such as this one require little maintenance however there are a few things we can do to keep an eye on them. Every few years the air pressure should be checked in your tank. A visual inspection can offer you a little bit of information, but most of the work is done inside the tank. The tank in the picture for example is just one type that uses a diaphragm. In this picture I have noted the cinch ring which is where the division between the captive air and yo...ur water occurs. In this picture we can see mold and mildew growing well above this mark. This is an indicator that the diaphragm has been compromised and water is now in the air chamber. The reason the mold and mildew grow is from the condensation on the tank. This tank needs to be replaced and could also be a source of contamination as it creates stagnant water in your pressure tank. Keep in mind there are many different styles and shapes of tanks.
