You may have seen this logo at our home. What does it mean? It means great changes are being implemented into our home with great results! Our home was chosen by Registered Nursing Association of Ontario to be a Best Practice Spotlight Organization. (BPSO) It is a 3 year challenge and we have successfully completed our first year. The goal is to introduce evidence based practices into our home and build sustainability. Our team has worked extremely hard to reach these goals and we are so, so proud! I'm sure the next 2 years will come with challenges, but as a team, WE'VE GOT THIS! To celebrate we hosted a carnival for staff and residents! What an amazing afternoon filled with cotton candy, popcorn, fresh cut fries, soft icecream, a tattoo booth, games, prizes and laughter!

INDOOR VISITS SUSPENDED Premier Doug Ford has reimposed restrictions in Ontario as a result of a significant surge in Covid-19 positive tests over the past week. Our obligation and first priority is to do everything we can to protect our residents and our staff. Therefore, effective this week indoor visits will be suspended for 1 month. The situation will be monitored and reassessed to determine when it is safe to commence indoor visits. Outdoor Gazebo visits will continue th...rough the Fall. VISITATION PROGRAM The Management Team at Watford Quality Care is in the process of planning a strategy that will allow for safe indoor visits. Currently we are under order from Public Health to restrict all indoor visits to essential visitors only.. We anticipate to start our indoor visits mid August. We do highly recommend to continue with Outdoor Visits until the weather conditions change in the Fall. The protocols associated with Indoor Visits will be posted on our Facebook page and also on our website. These protocols will be shared with Public Health and posted online in advance of commencing the Indoor Visitation Program. Thank you for your patience, understanding and support as we navigate through this pandemic and continue to be Covid free!!!

Covid-19 Update The Management and staff continue to be vigilant in our fight to protect our residents from contracting Covid-19 virus. Last week all staff were again tested. The results have come back and once again we are all negative!! HEAT WAVE... Ontario is experiencing an extended summer heat wave. In this article we share with you the measures and protocols that are implemented to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for the residents and for the staff. The first question that is asked Is the home air conditioned? Yes - every room has independent air conditioning. The rooftop air make up units have temperature control for central areas of the home. The air make up units expel the inhouse air to the outside 2 times every 24 hours drawing in fresh outdoor air. All windows are kept closed during the extreme heat to allow for efficient control of the building temperature. Extra staffing has been added since the detection of Covid-19 in Ontario in early March. Residents are closely monitored for signs of any symptoms of the virus. Added to the assessment process is signs of any effects of the extreme heat. Especially after an outside visit. The kitchen adjusts the daily menu when we hit extremely hot weather. Cold plate meals are favored over hot meals. Lots of various salad choices and fresh fruit and juice are popular during this heat wave. Staff continually offer fluids to keep residents hydrated. The Program Department made changes to the daily Activity Schedule due to Covid-19 and more one to one program was introduced and smaller group activities. Those programs continue through the heat wave. Physiotherapy, foot care service and the hair salon are all operating but with all the necessary protocols. The outside visitation center continues to function during the heat wave but visitations are concluded once temperature exceeds +30 C. Looking after the welfare of our staff is a priority during this heat wave. Staff are encouraged to keep hydrated during their shift and have their personal water bottle with them. The kitchen and laundry room are hot spots due to the equipment and physical work. Extra breaks are scheduled for staff and encouraged to stay hydrated. These past 5 months have been challenging times for all of us but your support and positive comments buoy the spirits of the residents and staff. Thank you for your patience and kindness. Please continue to be safe, healthy and positive!
