When we are impacted by sexualized violence, it is vital to take care of all aspects of ourselves. Sometimes, in the process of self-care and healing, we can leave parts out that are needing to be nurtured. In this video you will be taught how to use the Medicine Wheel as a tool for self-care. The Medicine Wheel has been used by Indigenous people historically to re-orient self-care towards mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical needs. Share this resource with anyone in ...your life who may find it useful! We are grateful for Nicola Wealth Management’s support of our Indigenous Counselling and Outreach Program! . . [video imagine description] an Indigenous woman wearing black demonstrates how to use the Medicine Wheel as a tool for self-care.

" We need to focus on ways in which we can reduce the police footprint in many domestic violence contexts...For those survivors who seek to engage with the criminal-legal system, we should make an effort to improve that system and make it more responsive to their needsand for those survivors who do not seek to engage, we need to create alternative pathways so that they can access safety.

What we are witnessing through the harassment, violence, and destruction enacted by settlers against Mi'kmaq fisherman in Nova Scotia is an act of ongoing colonial genocide. The colonial beliefs that are fueling these attacks on Indigenous economies, lands, resources, and communities, are the same colonial beliefs that lead to the disproportionately high rates of sexualized violence experienced by Indigenous women, and Two-Spirit people. We call on our community to stand ag...ainst these acts of colonial violence by donating, amplifying indigenous voices, sharing information, and calling in your communities. Below is an excellent list of ways in-which you can support Mi'kmaq treaty rights. Take action today.

"All levels of society including municipal, provincial, and federal governments, need to take responsibility to make sure that they treat transmisogyny as a severe human rights violation. As allies, including transmasculine people, to trans women, it is our job to show up and have the hard conversations that will move the dial towards the feminism we want. It’s not enough to disengage with transmisogyny; that is how it creeps back in. We need to be vocal and to encourage our friends, family, and colleagues to examine their transmisogyny. We need to stop excusing it under the guise of feminism."

WAVAW Presents: Queer Visions for Healing Justice! Join us and three local activists to talk about transformative justice, healing from sexual violence, and resisting the carceral justice system. We’ve heard from our communities that the current legal responses to sexual violence often leave survivors feeling unheard, unsatisfied, and unsafe. Queer people, Indigenous people, and people of color are imagining a different way of responding to sexual violence that heals whole c...ommunities and breaks cycles of violence, rather than further entrenching them through the carceral system. What would it mean for survivors if we defunded the police? What could we dream of instead? In this exciting panel, three local activists will challenge us to re-consider the criminal justice system, and discuss how transformative justice could respond to sexual violence. We’ll explore Indigenous frameworks for justice, the links between criminal justice and rape culture, and why reforming a broken system is not enough for survivors. Register via the zoom link below and stay tuned to learn more about our amazing panelists! https://us02web.zoom.us//register/WN_4wztdSOEQrSOmUgHVrIm5g
