Given our current global situation, our first post in the series is focussed on language barriers in Canadian healthcare settings. Bowen, S. (2015). Dear Members, After the recent elections at the CASLI Annual General Meeting, the Affiliate Chapter Presidents listed below wanted to send a message to acknowledge the harm being caused by the outcome of the elections. Though causing harm was not our intention, and this message cannot undo the harm, we hope that by clarifying our intentions we can alleviate some of the ongoing harm. As we live in varying regions of the country and the membership is not familiar with each of u...Continue reading

Invitation to join the roster As per part 10 of WAVLIs Bylaws, we are required to maintain a roster of Members who can be called upon to sit as members of mediation, review [or] disciplinary panels. The Professional Standards Committee (PSC) is calling on members to consider volunteering for this roster. The only requirement for the roster is Active Membership status. Ideally the roster would be comprised of members with varying years of experience and educational ba...ckground, to maximize selection should a need for any one (mediation, review, disciplinary) of the 3 panels arise. The time commitment ranges from nothing to substantial, depending on the complexity of a given case. While the need for such panels is rare, should the need arise, it is important that WAVLI has an established roster. Part 10 starting on page 21, of the WAVLI Bylaws explain the duties and responsibilities of roster members for both mediation and disciplinary purposes [bylaws link]. WAVLI encourages all members to review these before volunteering for the roster. If you are willing to have your name added to the roster, please respond to this email with the following sentence and personal information: I am willing to have my name stand on the roster of Members for the purposes of possible participation in a mediation, review, or disciplinary panel for the 2019/20 membership year. Contact information Name: Address: City: Province: PC: Phone/text Number: Email address: Membership status Let us know which category. Active Deaf Interpreter RSLI If you have any questions or would like to discuss the possibility of adding your name to the roster, please dont hesitate to contact Emily Drew or Kirsten Hagemoen, PSC Resource to Members Representative at: [email protected] Looking forward to hearing from you! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JegMmyP40pU&feature=share Please consider recyling your empties and supporting CASLI 2020! See below for more information. Hello WAVLI members!... Im Caroline Tetreault, Chairperson for the WAVLI Fundraising Committee. The goal of this committee is to raise funds specifically for the CASLI 2020 Conference. Id like to share one easy way you can help us with fundraising. Some of you are already doing this on a regular basis! Now you can do this and support the conference. Heres what you can do: Find all of your empty beer, wine, pop bottles etc. Get a clear plastic bag, or a blue recycling bag. Put everything in the bag. No need to separate containers or count them. Go online and find the nearest RETURN IT EXPRESS location. When you get there, you will see an EXPRESS Kiosk. Type in: 604-313-2955. The name, Suzie Giroux, should appear on the screen. Suzie is our Conference Treasurer. Click ok. The next screen will ask you how many bags you have. Print one label for each bag. Peel the label off and stick it on the bag. Drop off the bags in the designated area. And thats it! You have just made a donation to CASLI 2020 Conference! Thank you so much for your support!
