Wayfinders Wellness 06.01.2021

Wayfinders Wellness needs your assistance in creating this space! Physical fitness is an essential component to overall wellness, and is commonly used to improve mental wellness and resiliency. We are going to be renovating a garage/studio space into a gym/fitness area for Wayfinders and visitors to our ranch space. We are dedicating this space to Lt Andrew 'Nutz' Nuttall, a Canadian soldier who was killed in action on December 23rd, 2009. Several of our Wayfinders members se...rved with him overseas and wish to honor him with this space. Nuttall was known to his friends for his passion for fitness. The $7000 we are looking to raise will go towards renovations on the space as well as the purchase of equipment. Alternatively, we will gladly accept donations of new or sturdy and gently used equipment to assist on saving costs. Please click on the fundraiser for more info, or feel free to message with any questions! If you know anyone with connections in the gym equipment sales world, we would love to hear from them!

What does Resilience even mean? Two key components of resilience are adversity and positive adaptation. Resilience is often referred to as the ability to "bounc...e back" in the face of adversity. A wide range of factors influence resilience. Although it is largely agreed that Genetics, Personality, Social Support and Life Experience all play a role.

Here is a great online event for first responder spouses! To Serve and Connect is hosting an online book club and we are currently reading 'Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement: A Guide for Officers and Their Families'. This book is a staple for police families, and this is a great way to break it down and chat about it with other people!

There has always been a gap in support for First Responder spouses and families. Being in a relationship with a first responder can be very challenging, but also very rewarding. However there isn't exactly a handbook for navigating these challenges, especially if your spouse is dealing with PTSD or an OSI. We are thrilled to announce a new partner we will be working with, someone who understands these challenges and is actively working to build a community for spousal suppor...t. We would like to introduce you all to Lauren, founder of To Serve & Connect Society of Canada. Here is what Lauren has to say about TSAC: To Serve and Connect is dedicated to helping first responder spouses navigate this unique lifestyle through connection, community, workshops, retreats, and resources. Lauren was a Corrections Officer at Edmonton Institution for Women - and her husband is a Police Officer in Camrose. As Lauren attempted to understand the adverse effects that were showing up as a result of her career, at the same time, she began seeking additional support as a first responder spouse. There was little out there offering the community that she was craving. Lauren knows the benefits of connecting with like-minded people, being able to share stories, and creating a community to enable healing, learning, and belonging. We look forward to sharing her incredible content with you all, and if you are a spouse of a first responder, encourage you to go give her page a 'like' to follow along.
