The 2021 racing schedule... something to look forward to!
As we remember those who fought for our freedom, we give special thought to the significant role of the horse in times of war. Horses were initially used in battle, but as they became more vulnerable to advanced artillery, the role changed to support the transport of troops and ammunition. The use of the horse in modern warfare is almost non-existent. However, it is estimated that eight million horses, donkeys, and mules died in World War I from shellfire and gas attacks, fr...eezing mud, exhaustion, and mud-borne respiratory diseases. Throughout the war, 500-1000 horses were shipped to Europe every day, some from Canada. It is said that horses were considered so valuable that if a soldier's horse was killed or died, he was required to cut off a hoof and bring it back to his commanding officer to prove that the two had not simply become separated. #LestWeForget #WeRemember
The lovely dark horse in this video is new to us and is showing promise of being a great chuckwagon horse. He raced his first race in Meadow Lake two weeks ago. For no real reason at all he has gone without name since arriving. Wayne had the privilege of serving as an honourary pallbearer today as friends and family bid farewell to the late Kirby Stanley. Now it seems only fitting that our newest treasure will be called Kirby.
