February in Petrolia means two things: family and fun! Online events are planned throughout Petrolia February 12 15, 2021. The weekend starts on Friday, F...ebruary 12 as SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK returns to Petrolia from the comfort of your own home! You can stream this feature film from the comfort of your living room for FREE starting at 8:00 p.m. and all you need is the internet, and a password* and perhaps take-out from your favourite Petrolia restaurant! About SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK: On Halloween 1968, Stella and her two friends meet a mysterious drifter, Ramón, and uncover a sinister notebook of stories. IMDB The fun continues Saturday, February 13, with a FREE stream of RACETIME from the comfort of your own home! You can stream this feature film from the comfort of your living room for FREE starting at 1:00 p.m. All you need is the internet, and a password* (and some movie snacks from a local business!). About RACETIME: Ready, Set, Snow. Frankie and Sophie challenge newcomers Zac and Charlie to an epic sled race, only to break down right before the finish line. Convinced that Zac cheated, Frankie demands a rematch and raises the stakes by betting his team's clubhouse. Frankie and the gang build a spectacular new racetrack and the stage is set for the biggest race of the season. Viva Pictures Traditionally, Saturday, February 13 would be the Petrolia Heritage Committee Open House themed to celebrate our roots. However, this year, the Open House is being replaced with the opportunity to stream BLACK GOLD, a film by local filmmaker Aaron Huggett for FREE at 7:00 p.m. BLACK GOLD, a film about James Miller Williams, Ira Jackson, Hugh Nixon Shaw, Bootjack Mary, and Fairbank - all have one thing in common: they smell opportunity when oil is discovered in the fields on 1850s Black Creek. Following the stream of BLACK GOLD, director Aaron Huggett will be hosting a live Zoom Q&A with some of the cast members free of charge to the public. All you will need is the internet and a password**. Make plans to celebrate Valentine’s Day as a family this year by preparing a meal together, enjoying the outdoors, or calling a loved one! Plan a family take out picnic in a living room fort, find a way to celebrate the day that is all about love with those closest to you! Monday, February 15, our traditional Family Day fun continues! New Life Assembly Church at 421 Oozloffsky Street traditionally hosts and sponsors a free Family Day Breakfast. COVID-19, and the lockdown, will not stop New Life Assembly from blessing their community. All are welcome between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. to enjoy a drive up, take home meal kit that you can enjoy with your family! Pastor Sam Welten said, We will make it work. This tradition is so important for our community, and Family Day is an excellent opportunity to gather the family for a meal. The Petrolia YMCA would not let Family Day go by without some awesome, FREE, virtual programming for the entire family. Monday, February 15, at 11:00 a.m.: Family Fitness - Register for the hour and join one or both 30-minute family fitness classes! (11:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Family Group Groove & 11:30 am - 12 pm Family Yoga). Then at 1:00 p.m.: Family Trivia, with a Disney theme! Throughout the month of February, the annual Snow Sculpture Contest is part of the fun! This year, the contest started on January 29, and will run until February 15 at 4:00 p.m. The theme is Build Your Superhero and residents are encouraged to be creative using props, costume pieces and more, but are reminded that the main ingredient must be snow. The Lambton Central Petrolia Optimist Club is sponsoring the prizes for this event. Please e-mail your submissions to [email protected]. We encourage you to find a way to be active on Family Day weekend also, go for a walk, or a hike! Build a fort and have fun in the snow, or if there is not any, start a new Family Day tradition with your family like a nature scavenger hunt. Although Family Fun Days in Petrolia are different this year, they are still all about family and they are all about having fun!
