A bit more Wallaceburg Brass Quintet craziness.

Wallaceburg Concert Band 19.09.2020

There hasn’t been much to report but as many people ask about us as I’m out and about, I thought I’d give an update regarding our situation. Many of our members are sitting on the go button ready to resume rehearsals while some are actually fearful to do so. And then there are those who believe it safe to return but are forced to consider the vulnerability of others within their bubble. And then there are some who may lose the right to be near loved one’s if they make the...mselves vulnerable. Choices like that put some in an unenviable position. In short, our bands are merely a sample of the general public. We’re all over the map. I communicate with members frequently and have met with many as well so I have a pretty good handle on what people are thinking or the situation they find themselves in. The personal decisions are one thing but then there are the legal requirements. I have sought clarification of the regulations from CK Health regarding a group such as ours and while in theory we could gather to rehearse, the space required to properly distance everyone and audience size limits and requirements simply make it impractical, and limiting a concert to 100 spectators would be akin to having to choose who your best friends are. Not going to do it. We are taking the high road for now and will continue to follow the spirit of the regulations and the reasons for them. NO ONE WANTS TO GET BACK TO REHEARSING AND CONCERTS MORE THAN I DO. We will be watching the re-opening of schools very closely as well as other groups and gatherings and will attempt to extrapolate from their experiences in the coming weeks. We don’t want to be the next example of a group outbreak and the commensurate negative publicity that would accompany such indescretion. I do have an idea in the works but it’s too early to share it. Let’s see how the next several weeks turn out first. FYI, here are the regs provided by CK Public Health... Performing arts 11. (1) A business or place where concerts, artistic events, theatrical performances or other performances are rehearsed or performed may open if they comply with the following conditions: 1. The total number of spectators permitted to be in the venue in which the performance or rehearsal takes place at any one time must be no more than, i. 50 spectators, if the concert, event or performance is indoors, or ii. 100 spectators, if the concert, event or performance is outdoors.

The Wallaceburg and District Council for the Arts is celebrating 40 years! We would like to celebrate by featuring the phenomenal talent that surrounds us. We will be dedicating a page on our website, highlighting one special artist (visual, music, dramatic, dance) each month. If you are interested in being featured, or nominating someone to be featured, please complete the form on our website:https://wallaceburgartscouncil.com/artist-of-the-month/

It’s been some time since we uploaded our Lonely Boy video so we figured we’d work on something else. One of the offshoots of our Wallaceburg Concert Band is the Wallaceburg Brass Quintet. Hopefully this video will answer the dozens of inquiries of what were you doing on the bridge? We had fun making this and hope you understand the concept. Be sure to watch to the bitter end to see a few of the things we had to endure while making this. Special thanks to the CK Police and Works Dept. for being patient with us. My only question is What will Dan suck me into next?
