Let's continue to be safe.

West Coast Glaucoma 20.10.2020

The safety of our patients and staff are our top priority. We are open in our "new-normal" low patient volume state until there is a vaccine or proven population immunity. We can accommodate 4 people in the waiting room while maintaining physical distancing. We therefore ask that anyone accompanying a patient wait outside the building. Patients arriving too early might be sent out and asked to return at their appointment time. We are fastidious about cleaning all surfaces that are touched, wash our hands before each patient and have everyone entering the office wash their hands upon arrival. We are all wearing masks. Everyone coming into the office is required to wear a mask.

Kind of gloomy but helps to set expectations low. We still need to find solace. Just because things are beginning to re-open, we are at a huge risk for a second spike in a couple of weeks, not to confused with the second wave in the Fall. We need to do everything we can to continue to be safe!

An important thing to learn from the Spanish Flu...one day San Francisco declared the end of mandatory masks and this led to a third wave of the disease and reinstating the mask wearing law. Let's not forget the lessons learned. And on a personal note: gloves carry the disease and are not a substitute for proper hand washing. Each day we have to tell patients showing up at my office to take off their (filthy) gloves and wash their hands.
