Found a few Chum today. These big beautiful fish are also known as Keta or Dog Salmon. Did you know, Chum are among the largest of Pacific salmon, second only to Chinook salmon in size. They can grow up to be 3.6 feet and 30 to 35 pounds! First salmon of 2020 for the Lisa Jess. After grabbing fuel in Prince Rupert, Joel and his crew made the crossing to the north end of Haida Gwai. They got their lines in the water late afternoon and landed their first fish not long after. Why so far north? While there is recreational fishing right out our front door, there is no commercial opening right now for salmon trolling on the inside (between the island and mainland).
