On this day of #CanadianInnovationWeek we are featuring the Cobalt Bomb which revolutionized the treatment of cancer. The exhibit honours the inspiring story of the first successful treatment of cancer with this machine at University Hospital in Saskatoon in 1951. This is very much a Saskatchewan and a Saskatoon story, thanks in part to the work of Dr. Sylvia Fedoruk.
November 13 to 19 is Transgender Awareness Week. Transgender Awareness Week is an opportunity to celebrate transgender, two-spirit, non-binary and gender-diverse communities and advocate for the visibility and rights of trans* people around the world. Transgender Awareness Week occurs just before Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20. Transgender Day of Remembrance honors the memory of victims whose lives were lost because of anti-transgender violence.
The WDM, in partnership with Spirit Wrestlers Productions and the University of Saskatchewan, is honoured to be the recipient of the 2020 Governor General’s History Award for Excellence in Museums: History Alive! for The Saskatchewan Doukhobor Living Book Project.

Help us decide! Winter is a wonderful time to cozy up indoors with a blanket, a good book, and of course, a favorite meal. Tell us which comfort food (Chili Con Carne or Mac and Cheese) you want Exhibits Designer Cory Schewaga to make for his next video, Exploring Recipes From the WDM Collection. ‘LIKE’ this post to vote for Chilli Con Carne and ‘LOVE’ it to vote for Mac and Cheese. Whichever one has the most votes by Sunday, November 29, 2020 is what Cory will make.
