It's Canadian Patient Safety Week and the theme this year is Virtual Care is New to Us. According to the Canadian Patient Safety Institute, only 10% of Canadians have experience with virtual care, but 41% would like to have virtual visits with their healthcare providers. Good healthcare starts with good communication. The way to make sure healthcare providers and patients make the most of virtual appointments is to use the tried and true basics patients are encouraged to ask questions and to bring an advocate with them to appointments. Exciting news! The Woodstock Hospital Foundation is launching an online 50/50 raffle on November 3rd, with a new raffle happening each month. Proceeds will support the purchase of new equipment and technology for our hospital. It's truly a win win scenario!
Join us in celebrating National Respiratory Therapy Week! RTs assess, monitor, and treat patients experiencing breathing difficulties in areas like the Critical Care Unit and Emergency Department. They perform tests for cardio-respiratory disease and also educate patients about cardiovascular health. They have been fundamental in our COVID-19 response and we appreciate all they do! #RTWEEK2020 #healthcare #oxfordcounty. These are just some of the amazing staff we have in our Cardio Respiratory Department! From LtoR: Miranda Fowler, RT; Kelly Regier, RT; Danielle Patterson, RT; Chuan Yong, Manager of Respiratory Therapy.

A great message from Southwestern Public Health. The decisions we make each day can help keep COVID-19 case counts low in our community. Hoping everyone has a safe and enjoyable weekend.
Woodstock Hospital received an energy conservative incentive cheque from Enbridge Gas in recognition of the energy savings achieved by installing a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Plant. The hospital is using nearly 100% of the available heat recovered from the CHP Plant to reduce our reliance on the existing natural gas fired hot water boilers which provides space heating and domestic hot water for the facility. As a result the boiler plant isn’t currently running, which is pictured here. We thank Enbridge Gas for their collaborative efforts and expertise throughout this project. (LtoR) Chris Marion, Director of Capital Projects; John Loncar, Senior Advisor Commercial/Industrial Energy Conservation with Enbridge; Perry Lang, Woodstock Hospital President & CEO.
October is National Occupational Therapy Month. We have amazing OTs at Woodstock Hospital! OTs help their patients and clients resume or maintain the ability to do things that are important to them such as going to work, participating in leisure and social activities, caring for themselves and their home, and so much more. Thank you for all you do! ... #teamwork #healthcare #oxfordcounty
Something new and exciting is coming! Stay tuned.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in Ontario women. Regular screening is very important because it can find cancer early, when treatment has a better chance of working. Talk to your family doctor or nurse practitioner about breast screening options. It’s Healthcare Foodservice Workers Week. Proper nutrition is a vital element in fighting off illness and recovering from injury, making these men and women a very important part of patient care. Their efforts are central to the health and well-being of our patients and they also work hard to keep our staff fed! We appreciate their efforts today and every day.
