You might have noticed more tents, string lights and heaters popping up across Metro Vancouver’s public spaces. Businesses have been working hard to winterize their outdoor patios so they can safely accommodate more residents to keep sipping into the colder months. With the patio program originally set to end in two weeks, the province and many municipalities have extended the patio program until October 31st of 2021. In our final post and article in the #PatioSeries, Tr...ansLink and HUB are highlighting some great patios at breweries across Metro Vancouver including Container Brewing, Four Winds Brewing Co., and Dageraad Brewing Read the Full Article Here https://bikehub.ca/patio-series-4 #UrbanRecovery #SupportLocal #Cycling #Beer #Eat #Drink #MetroVancouver #Brewery #ShopLocal

Thank you The Georgia Straight for nominating HUB Cycling as the "Best NGO effort to level the holiday playing field" We are honored and delighted that we have the support of our staff and board to make this change a reality. Check out an excerpt from the article below: "One of the legacies of colonialism is our Christian-centric list of statutory holidays in B.C. We get Christmas off work, but not Diwali. Good Friday is on the list but not Vaisakhi, Eid, or Passover. And... the government deems that Victoria Day, celebrating a long-dead British monarch, is worthy of a holiday but not National Aboriginal Day or Lunar New Year. Over at HUB Cycling, executive director Erin O’Melinn decided to shake up this status quo to demonstrate that her nongovernmental organization respects all faiths, religions, and backgrounds. As a result, HUB Cycling will no longer force staff to take four days of holidays during the Christmas season in its next fiscal year. Instead, staff will have five paid days off that they can take at any time during the year to celebrate their festivals and traditions. It’s yet another demonstration that decolonization can take many forms." Read More Here https://www.straight.com/living/best-of-vancouver-city-life cred: @madhukarkumar

HUGE Congratulations are in order for HUB's Burnaby Local Committee for winning the City of Burnaby - Local Government's Green Choices Award! HUB Cycling's Burnaby Local Committee has supported Burnaby's vision for active transportation by advocating for many cycling facility improvements, including a separated cycle path to connect the Sea to River Bikeway over the Gilmore Avenue overpass of Highway 1. Since 2014, they have worked tirelessly raising public awareness, ga...thering public support and making recommendations that informed the final design of the project. Finally in 2019, city council approved the project and construction improvements to the overpass are now underway. Interested in making a difference for #cycling in your community? Starting November 9, TransLink is removing forgotten and abandoned bikes from their Bike Parkades to maintain accessible and easy-to-use facilities for active cyclists. To alert bike owners, TransLink staff will attach a tag on bikes and other items two weeks before they’re removed. Bike owners who discover a tag on their bike are encouraged to simply dispose of their tag and continue using day-use Bike Parkades as they normally would.... Removed bikes will be donated to the PEDAL Our Community Bikes Society’s Pedals for the People program, unless they’ve been reported as stolen. Moving forward, clean outs will occur biannually and follow the same procedure. Visit translink.ca/bikeparking for more information
