Say hello to another member of our church fam, Jackey! He’s currently working on finishing a Master of Divinity at Regent College, and just became the new outreach and evangelism intern at SCBC! In his down time, Jackey enjoys video games, magic cards, tennis, curling, and recently found the joy of hardcore 7 hour arts-n-crafts marathons with his wife, Michelle Fun Fact: He likes to eat chips in bed like a barbarian... "My favourite passage is Galatians 5:13: ‘For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.’ This verse is dear to me because I constantly need to be reminded about the true nature of freedom, which is the freedom to love and serve. Our default setting is to chase after that other kind of freedom, the freedom to please ourselves; but do enough of that, and you'll realize it's a deeper form of slavery that keeps us chained to our own appetites and desires. But God in Christ has shown us the better way, the way of love and self-forgetting, and His Spirit gives us true freedom. #fellowship #community #churchfamily #church #scripture #devotional #wearescbc

Last Sunday, Pastor Rob led us in considering the better path of forgiveness. Though it feels unnatural and even outrageous at times, it is nevertheless a fundamental command from God: to forgive as we have been forgiven. We see in God’s commands not only an invitation to do what is right, but what is better. Say hello to Alvin! He works as a web developer outside of church, but at SCBC, you can catch him teaching the youth Sunday school, leading youth fellowship, and helping with the SCBC website! . He enjoys video games, magic cards, tennis, curling, and recently got into Rubik's cube solving. According to him, he's not very fast at it yet! . Fun Fact: Alvin is color blind! He actually needs colors to be given to him in hexadecimal format for his job. ... . "My favorite passage is 2 Timothy 1:7 "For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control". It is a verse I have to remind myself a lot of, because I tend to be anxious and fearful when faced with difficulties, but that is not what God calls us to. Next up for our SCBC introductions is Victoria! At SCBC, she schedules English Worship servers and makes sure that everyone has what they need to serve properly. She also teaches the youth Sunday School class. Victoria’s a graphic designer, so she uses her skills to help out with any design work that needs to be done for the church! Some of her hobbies include watching TV/movies, reading, carving stamps/printmaking, and listening to podcasts. A fun fact about Victoria: she ha...s a cat named Joey (who has made an appearance in the picture above, so cute!) . Victoria’s favourite verse is 2 Corinthians 12:9, which says, But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. . I like this verse because it reminds me that it's not about me and what I can do for God, but about the amazing things God does despite my weaknesses and failures.
