HALLOWEEN // Happy Halloween to all of you and your little trick-or-treaters! Here are a few tips to keep sleep from getting too scary for you all tonight 1. Plan to start trick-or-treating EARLY in the evening (even during the day for young toddlers/babes) so your little one can experience the fun while they’re still in good spirits ... 2. Limit candy (or don’t offer any at all for the really little ones) by setting limits beforehand. You’d be surprised how much sweets before bed can affect sleep 3. Stick to your usual bedtime routine and include a bath if time allows. Having a bit longer of a routine will help the transition from an exciting day to a sound sleep 4. If you use white noise, consider turning it up slightly to help mask out the loud noise and fireworks I hope these tips help and that you all have the best time with Halloween festivities

FALL BACK Remember the days when we all got a glorious extra hour of sleep at the end of Daylight Savings? That was before we had kids So how do we prepare for the time change when little ones are already natural early risers (and 6:00am is about to become 5:00am)?!... Starting a few days before the time change (which is on November 3rd), I suggest shifting your little one’s ENTIRE schedule morning wake time, nap times, meal times, and bedtime later in 15-minute increments until you’re able to make up the hour adjustment. Some that are older or less sensitive to scheduling changes may be able to shift in 30-minute increments, but gradual is generally better for little ones Most people take up to one week to adjust to any time change and children are no exception, so try not to expect too much from your little ones. Exposure to light is also a big factor in setting our internal rhythms, so try to hold off on light/screens until your desired wake time. Stay as consistent as you can, be patient, and good luck! @golden_girl_house
