It's a good thing to acknowledge that you haven’t gotten where you are today all at once. Circumstances and events have moulded you to become who you are today, different from what you may have become without the circumstances. The way you think has altered with time and experience, as has your point of view. ... Have you been affected for good? What did your life situations do to your thinking processes? They have all contributed to the belief systems you hold today. The things you do continuously were formulated and based on the deep fears you had that were not banished or dealt with and have now metamorphosed into automatic programming. Aristotle, said all those centuries ago, that we are what we repeatedly do. The bible says that as a man/woman thinks in his/her heart so is he/she. Meaning that greatness is not an art but a habit. Procrastination is not an art but a habit. Mediocrity is a science but a habit. It all boils down to what your mindset is. What beliefs do you hold?
Wait, let’s name those fears. Before we do let’s name a few things that these fears masquerade as. Laziness, procrastination, low self esteem, lack of confidence and timidity. I am writing purely from a lay person’s point of view. Procrastination eventually gets a helping hand from the art of perfection, which is really deception. In simple terms you have reached a point where you deceive yourself that the reason you are not completing the task is because you need to make su...re it is perfect. Perfection is the highway to poverty. Stress starts to build up, your body needs some substance to pep it up so you indulge in comfort eating. This is just one scenario. I digress, we were discussing our fears. Lets name our fears! Naming your fears is about getting your true perceptions of your ability to cope with situations out in the open. Are you overly sensitive? Are you secretive? After a long while fears tend to camouflage as something else. What is your fear? Bring all fearful situations in your life under scrutiny and reality. Do not allow yourself to twist your fear in another direction. Be true to yourself. You need to know what your fears are before letting go of the emotion.
The question some of us maybe asking ourselves is how did we come to where we are? some of us are so screwed up, we need the power of God to straighten us up to the point where we can actually admit to ourselves that we do have a problem. These problems when translated can be fear in its various forms. Sometimes our fears can lead to pushy behaviour and at other times and more frequently to timidity, lack of confidence and low self esteem. Some of these fears are from childho...od. Some of us cannot directly recall these fears and some of us clearly remember the fears but do not know how to effectively deal with them. So, fear is the enemy. I am not referring to that innate life preserving action boosted by the surge of Adrenalin that Pastor Joel Osteen (albeit at the tender age of 10) had when a huge dog was galloping towards him to obviously do him harm. He easily scaled a 6 foot wall. Nor am I referring to the fear of the giant at the foot of the bed when the light switch is turned off for the night and you were just 8. I am referring to the fear of being shamed and fear of being rejected. The other fears are important as well but .......
Yesterday I published a post that was a bit abstract. Done on purpose! what I hoped you would think of is how your mind, and what has been programmed into you, has been affecting your life particularly in the area of your weight. In other words, your mindset determines the outcome of your life. Do you procrastinate? Are you a perfectionist? are you a mediocre? do you hide behind some fancy wall?
