Stuff a BACKPACK this week! Every night in the HRM people are forced to sleep outside in unsafe conditions. There’s a housing crisis in our city, and hundreds of people are homeless. They can’t secure or afford affordable housing, and the shelters are often full.... In the middle of September approximately 50 people were sleeping under overpasses, under benches, in tents and in the woods. Sleeping outside is often their only option. And it’s getting colder. And wetter. Welcome Housing and Support Services is having a backpack drive this October. We will deliver backpacks full of snacks, warm clothing and hygiene products to the many folks living outside all around our city, and we need your help! We’re accepting any of the following at our Gottingen St location: -Snacks (granola bars, pudding cups, crackers, etc.) -Backpacks (new or lightly used) -Socks -Hats and mittens -Hygiene products (soap, shampoo, pads, tampons, etc.) Deliver it to Welcome Housing’s main office @ 2330 Gottingen St Monday-Friday from 8:00AM-3:00PM.
