Well and Renting

Imagine a court with no threat of perjury, where anything can be said and nothing needs to be proven. Imagine a system where it takes longer to get a hearing than the notice a person is required to give and get. A system where even a simple straight forward judgement takes weeks or months to get and a where this decision can hold the landlord liable simply because they have the financial means to absorb the loss . Sounds crazy right ? I am kidding for sure right ? Unfortunat...ely NOT ! Welcome to the landlord tenant board dispute resolution system. A system where there is only one person to complain to called the Vice Chair (whose name changes annually) other than your Member of Parliament. With no ombudsman if treated unfairly, and no attention to timely service it's not a wonder why there is bullet proof glass at the regional head office in Hamilton. Is this beginning to sound like the fiasco once called the Workman Compensation Board who has also undergone a name change to appease the unimpressed but dissatisfaction has never improved The landlord Tenant Board was once called The Landlord Tenant association. That name has also been changed to distance itself from the past but never really changed like the latter. Welcome to the social justice tribunal of Ontario. This dispute resolution body ironically has no dispute resolution. If you disagree or if you have been treated unfairly or the judgement is not timely. There is absolutely nothing you can do about it. More than 82,000 application have been heard in Southern Ontario from January to July 2017 Do you, as a landlord want to navigate this system or avoid it ?

Did you know that when a tenant gives you notice to vacate the tenant does not have to honor it ?....and the landlord tenant board will not make them honor it even when they admit that they gave proper written notice while standing in front of an adjudicator.
