Wellington Dukes Alumni 17.02.2021

Former Wellington Duke goaltender Jordan Ruby faced 34 shots as his Macon Mayhem defeated the Pensacola by a score of 3 to 2 in SPHL playoff action. Macon leads the best-of-three semi-final series one game to none. During the regular season his .925 save % and 21 wins were both second best in the league. His 2.32 GAA was 3rd in the league. He also had two shutouts. Last season he played for the Brampton Beast of the ECHL after he completed four years of NCAA hockey with the RIT Tigers where he set the school mark with 1,763 saves and won 23 contests, fourth most in the Division 1 era at RIT. The Tavistock, Ontario native back-stopped the Dukes to their second Dudley Hewitt Cup Championship in franchise history in 2011 and was named Tournament MVP.

Former Wellington Duke Luc Brown has been named the Rookie-of-the-Year for NCAA Division I Union College Dutchmen. The team's leading rookie scorer, Luc tallied 6 goals and added 9 assists for a total of 15 points. He tied a career high with two points (1G 1A) in the Mayor's Cup assisting on the game-winning goal. He also had the game-winning points at Clarkson and against Princeton in game one of the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals. He ranked tied for seventh among ECAC Hockey rookies in games played (37). The Napanee, Ontario native played four seasons for the Dukes (2012-16) winning OJHL Most Valuable Player and Most Improved Player as well as leading the league in scoring in his final year.

Wellington Dukes Alumni 30.01.2021

Former Wellington Dukes forward Shaw Boomhower assisted on a third period insurance goal as his Mississauga Steelheads defeated the Oshawa Generals by a score of 7 to 3 in OHL playoff action. The best-of-seven series is now tied at one game each. He was ranked as the 3rd Best Body Checker in the Eastern Conference by the OHL Coaches Poll and has been ranked at #112 in the NHL Final-Term Draft. The Belleville, Ontario native played his rookie season with the Dukes this past year as a 17 year old out of the Quinte Red Devils AAA program. He played most of this past season on an all-rookie line where his physical play also included 23 points in 51 regular season games while adding 3 more points in 9 OJHL playoff games.

Former Wellington Dukes defenceman Curtis Leonard had two assists including one on the game-winning goal as his Fort Wayne Komets went on to defeat the Quad City Mallards by a score of 6 to 1 in ECHL action. He was named the ECHL's Plus Performer of the Month for November after leading the league with a +14 rating. The Napanee, Ontario native starred in 2010-11 in his third season as a Duke. Leonard was named one of the club’s alternate captains by head coach Marty Abrams.... Abrams couldn’t say enough about his star defenceman, who had only just turned 18, Curtis is a force on the back-end, a premier shot blocker and shut down guy. He is a leader on and off the ice and always gives a tremendous effort when he steps on the ice. Highly coachable, Curtis has a bright future. He exemplifies what it means to be a Wellington Duke. The 6’3, 180 lbs defender started the 2010-11 season the same way he finished the previous year, earning Player-of-the-Month honours for the Dukes in September as the club went 5-0 and he enters December on a current ironman streak of 123 consecutive games played. Leonard would earn a spot on Team East for the 2010 CJHL Prospects Game that his team would win over Team West in Dauphin, Manitoba and he finished the year with 22 points in 48 regular season contests to finish second in scoring on the Dukes blueline, while helping his club finish as runner-up for the OJHL title. He added five post-season points as the Dukes went on a run that saw them up-end the Oakville Blades four games to one to capture the franchise's second Buckland Cup championship. During the Dudley-Hewitt Cup in Huntsville, Ontario, the Dukes would defeat the hometown Otters to earn a spot at the 2011 RBC Cup, National Junior 'A' Championship that was held in Camrose, Alberta.. Wellington Dukes Alumni 30.12.2020

Three Wellington Dukes affiliate players this past season were selected from the Quinte Red Devils AAA minor midgets program in the OHL Priority Draft: Zachary Uens: The Belleville, Ontario defenseman played in two games with the Dukes, both of them wins over the Kingston Voyageurs and the Aurora Tigers. He was selected by the Flint Firebirds in the 4th round. Jake Campbell: The Napanee, Ontario forward played one game with the Dukes, a win over the Aurora Tigers. He was ...selected in the 9th round by the Kingston Frontenacs. Daniel Panetta: The Belleville, Ontario forward did not get into a game with the Dukes. He was selected in the 4th round by the Peterborough Petes. His oldest brother, Jacob, is a former Duke that is now playing NCAA with Colgate.
