Two weeks - no drinks! How is it going? I’m not going to lie, I have been enjoying a Friday at home happy hour weekly but I’m taking a break. Taking a break from alcohol can support weight loss, save you money, decrease inflammation in your body, improve your digestion, support better food choices, support portion control, support a better mood, give you more time, support a better sleep and give you clear thinking with more energy! I just learned that even 1 drink can affec...t your sleep quality. 1 drink!! I’m looking forward to the break because I want to break what was becoming a too frequent habit for me, having a drink with dinner. I’m not saying I’m never going to drink again after these two weeks. However after understanding how it affects sleep quality, I’m committed to doing it less habitually! Im also going to get curious and take stock of any other changes I notice. Remove temptations! Give away, throw away or save for another day. Do you still have treats hanging around from the holidays? What was probably intended as a few days of indulging can go on for days, weeks and months! Having these treats lying about is a sure way to be eating more sugar than we want. Be aware of how much you are treating yourself. If you are joining me in the two week reset you might want to think about removing these temptations. Set yourself up for s...uccess! You have three choices: 1. Give it away. I take mine to work and leave it in the lunchroom, it’s gone in minutes!! 2. Throw it away. Toss those little extra bits leftover or maybe the ones that aren’t your favourite. 3. Freeze it. Instead of eating all the goodies at once because they are going to go bad, freeze them and take one item out at a time. It’s starting! My two week reset!! Who is in with me?! No wheat, no sugar, no alcohol, no processed foods, no dairy!! 1/2 my plate is veggies, 1/4 plate protein, 1/4 complex carbohydrates. I have a confession, I don’t love doing Sunday meal prep. But I did it yesterday anyway. I AM loving that right now that I know I don’t have to cook for the entire week. It feels like a huge relief not to have to think about it at all!! No more thinking about what to cook, grocery shopping..., prepping or cooking. I have a busy work week but it already feels calmer knowing I have nutritious and delicious meals to fuel me through this week. I could be working on a new habit.... Didn’t start yesterday? Feeling down, tired and unmotivated after the holiday season? This is common but not normal. Meaning I have been feeling this way, along with others but I know I can do better and I know why. During the holidays I eat more sugary foods, drank more alcohol, and was busier than usual. In a different years it would have been lots of socializing. These physical cues of feeling blue and low energy are my body trying to tell me something. It’s had enough and I’m going to liste...n. It’s time for a reset!! Two weeks, no sugar, alcohol, processed foods, no wheat and no dairy. This will give my body a break and a chance to heal and recuperate. I might even lose some weight! It is a momentary sacrifice but I’m excited about feeling vibrant again, I’m looking forward to more energy, a clearer mind and better mood. Sound good? Have you ever worked for your food? I love the idea of foraging because I love hiking and being in nature. Foraging checks many of the healthy boxes all at once: getting in nature getting exercise spending time with others... eating local eating organic eating healthy Chanterelles are a good source of vitamins B and D and minerals selenium and cooper. They are an excellent source of polysaccharides which protect your cells from damage and stimulate your immune system. I sautéed mine, added sea salt and truffle oil on toast! Delicious!
