Grief is one of those things that often comes back during the holidays. I love the model of mourning talked about in this article. I think it may be helpful for those who feel that wave of sadness or grief during the holidays. My own suggestions for managing grief over the holidays: Allow yourself to feel and validate your own (or your children’s) feelings of loss and of missing that person. Rather than pushing the thoughts and feelings away it may be helpful to come up... with a way to ensure your loved one is allowed to still be present during the holidays. This can be done either concretely through a ritual, gesture or a picture to remember them, or emotionally, simply by sharing stories, taking time to remember them and by allowing yourself and others to keep them close in their heart. However you manage grief during the holidays, know that it is normal and ok to feel sad and miss your loved ones at this time of year, regardless of amount of time that has gone by. Reach out to friends, family or those who knew and loved your person. You’re probably not the only one missing them right now.

If your child is stressed out or anxious, and you have a bit of energy, joy edges out the anxious feelings. Times are rough right now; try to crank up the hope because even though it feels like it, this pandemic will not last foreverSending #compassion

Symptoms of PTSD come in many forms and lots of people don’t know that their unconscious reactions and behaviours that may seem a little unhelpful to the outsid...e eye are actually subtle PTSD symptoms. PTSD doesn’t always happen straight after a trauma. Sometimes it’s only after years of coping that you reach crisis point and the better known PTSD symptoms emerge. Do you recognise any of these? Have you been coping with trauma alone? #traumainformed #traumarecovery #traumahealing #posttraumaticgrowth #posttraumaticstressdisorder #stressrelief #stressmanagement #selfharmrecovery #mentalhealthrecovery #mentalhealthhelp #childhoodtrauma #moodswings #codependency #codependencyrecovery #chronicpain #recoverywarrior #highrisk #addictionrecovery #addictionawareness #traumasurvivor #dontskipbrainday #feelingishealing #mentalhealthworkout #mindfulness See more

Always straddling the tension and trying not to tap out. Forever convincing ourselves that we can hold so many contradictory pieces and feelings. Not only are t...ension and contradictory pieces OK and normal theyre the magic sauce. Carl Jung called the paradox one of our most valued spiritual possessions and a great witness to the truth. He wrote, Only the paradox comes anywhere near to comprehending the fullness of life. Sometimes beautiful. Sometimes terrible. Always deeply human.

Boosting mood through movement and exercise Recent evidence demonstrates that physical activity promotes neuroplastic effects and may serve as a...n effective intervention for mood disorders. Physical activity alters the progression of mood disorder neuropathology by optimizing the levels of neurotransmitters, neurotrophic factors, beta-endorphins, cortisol, and muscle-derived protein (peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1- [PGC-1]). Moreover, regular physical activity optimizes processes involved in neurogenesis, immune function, stress regulation, antioxidant defense, circadian rhythms, epigenetic modifications and the maintenance of telomere length.
