Test Zooms abound here @craftnovascotia. This time we are getting ready for Wendy Johnston Pottery’s Great Atlantic Canadian Pottery Throwdown, taking place thi...s Saturday, October 17th at 2pm Atlantic on Zoom. Vaughan Smith of Westcote Bell Pottery will join Wendy Johnston, and be one of several potters starting with 6-7 lbs of clay and in his case throwing a vessel in the 20 minute time limit. We will introduce each potter, and show a short video or panorama shot of their studio. Then all at the same time the potters will throw down their clay and start creating a vessel with a time limit of 20 minutes. Online visitors will get to see the potters hands at work, and the vessels taking shape. Different techniques, shapes and styles will emerge on screen. This Great Atlantic Canadian Pottery Throwdown was the brainchild of potter Wendy Johnston, who is part of the current Craft Nova Scotia member exhibition, #CraftYear2020, at the Centre for Craft Nova Scotia & Mary E Black Gallery. Due to Covid-19 gathering limits we asked each exhibitor to come up with a virtual engagement idea just in case the gallery wasn't able to be open to visitors. Luckily we are able to be open, 11am to 4pm Wednesday to Saturday, but couldn't resist this and the other ideas that our exhibitors came up with! Want to watch the action unfold? Check out the link here for more details, https://www.cognitoforms.com//CraftNovaScotiaGreatAtlantic. #CraftNS

Yesterday while visiting family in Germany I had the chance to visit an old iron works in Völklingen. It’s the coolest old factory I’ve ever seen. Now it’s a museum and a UNESCO world heritage site.

These photos were taken in Berlin and Prague last week. I try to focus in on smaller sections of art or buildings to see if I could come up with ideas for painting on my pottery. There's a really dynamic contrast between architecture from mediavel to more recent buildings.
