March 20, 2020 City of Cranbrook Council Report As coronavirus (COVID-19) cases continue to grow in the Province of BC, the City wants to emphasize to our residents that we must all continue to listen to the direction of our Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry. Dr. Henry is sternly warning the public about the seriousness of this situation and that under the Provincial State of Health Emergency, the instructions to implement hand washing, social distancing and stay-a...t-home practices are critical to be adhered to. In this respect Council reminds residents and business owners that any activity where a 1-2-meter social distancing requirement cannot be met, it needs to be adjusted or halted altogether. While the City supports and advocates for the recommendations of the Provincial Health Officer, the City of Cranbrook is standing firmly behind our community during these trying times. We have increased our efforts to coordinate community support services and are connecting those critical organizations through our Regional Emergency Operations Center (REOC). The City has recognized the need to support businesses and is partnering to develop an Economic Resiliency Task Force to create and implement strategies to help now and support the future recovery from this pandemic. Our city staff are committed to increase our organizational resilience, adjusting our operational practices to address the difficulties this emergency presents to both staff and operations. Our efforts are focused on supporting those critical services such as water, sewer, garbage collection, fire and emergency response. We want to remind the public that although we have closed our facility doors, we are still working and can be reached at this time by phone at the following numbers: General inquiries: 311 Payments, Utilities: 250-489-0233 Recreational services, concerts: 250-489-0220 or 250-489-0221 Public Works: 250-489-0218 Building inspections: 250-489-0230 Bylaw Services: 250-489-0263 Fire & Emergency Services: 250-426-2325 The City is working hard to make well informed decisions based on the best information available to us. We would direct the public to the BC Center for Disease Control (www.bccdc.ca) and the Ministry of Health (www.healthlinkbc.ca) websites if they require additional information on navigating this public health emergency.

As I am getting asked about the soccer/Indoor sports dome, here is where I am at. As the City is a partner in this facility we need to choose a location that will see the success of this sporting complex. I am open to having this discussion again around the Belment Park location. Over the past 6 weeks I have had many positive discussions with people around the facility and its final home, also I have reached out to other communities that have them to get input, like the City of Langford. What I have come to understand from Langford is they are having great success with their facility as it is central to other sporting venues.
