The intro of American tv show, Sergeant Preston of the Yukon, in 1955.
Four years ago today Canada was hosting the Royals in Victoria !! This event was one of the many fond memories for West Coast Marine Services and SIIMU, in partnership with multiple agenies, as they protected these VIPs over their two day visit to the area.

St Roch II Voyage of Rediscovery Hard to believe that it was 20 years ago (July 1, 2000) that the St. Roch II (RCMP PV Nadon) departed from Vancouver for the ...Northwest Passage. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to the crew of both the Nadon and the CCG Simon Fraser, our partners, the staff, supporters/sponsors, our families, the Vancouver Maritime Museum (under the stellar leadership of James Delgado), volunteers, communities, the Government of Canada, Canadian Coast Guard, the RCMP, the RCMP Vets and others. In time, the Nadon would become only the 75th vessel in history to transit the Northwest Passage. The Nadon was the first catamaran to challenge the entire passage and was the first non-ice strengthen vessel to ever circumnavigate North America in a single season. The 169-day 24,000 nm journey saw us travel north from Vancouver around the Alaskan Coast, west-to-east through the Canadian Arctic, south along the East Coast of Canada into the St. Lawrence and in as far as Prescott, Ontario. Heading out of the St. Lawrence Seaway the Nadon turned south along the American East Coast, travelled across the Caribbean, through the Panama Canal and back up the West Coast of North America returning to Vancouver on December 16th, 2000. We searched for Franklin, conducted scientific investigations, welcomed the creation of Nunavut, celebrated with the Inuit, ushered in a new millennium, dodged ice flows and polar bears. We made over 50 Ports of Call in 7 different countries. The story and history of the original RCMP St. Roch was shared with an international audience of over 17 million people. It was an epic adventure by any measure. One, that I am forever grateful, that I was able to participate in. The Nadon is now out of active service and on permanent display at the Vancouver Maritime Museum.

The RCMP in E Division was the First Government Agency, in Canada to enroll and be totally compliant within the Small Vessel Compliance Program (Non Pleasure-craft).
MEMORIES: Sgt. Peter Attrell spent five years posted as Skipper and i/c of the PV Inkster, as a new vessel and as doubled crewed (8 members), from 1995 to 2000. We live along a vast and diverse west coast. Its common that the RCMP members make life long friends in many communities and residents throughout this area. Other friends such as those aboard the Coastal Messenger (https://www.facebook.com/Coastal-Missions-270828796722478/) know the dynamics of what its like along this vast coast - thank you for your service and the support YOU provided to our members and to our communities, through good and some not so good times !! https://youtu.be/wOpzfrP8Zpk
Today in 1969, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) gifted The Queen, Burmese a Saskatchewan black mare. The horse became her favourite & she rode her for 18 years. Her Majesty is the RCMPs Commissioner-in-Chief. #cdnpoli #cdnhist #cdncrown #RCMP

Very interesting story and collection of photos from Jill Heinerth while on a regular BC Coastal Community (7 day) patrol aboard one of the RCMP West Coast Marine - Patrol Catamarans. "........ She (Jill Heinerth) is a veteran of over thirty years of filming, photography and exploration on projects in submerged caves around the world with National Geographic, NOAA, various educational institutions and television networks worldwide. Excerpt from "Larry Burden's This Day In The RCMP" October 30th: 1917 29-year old Acting Major George Randolph Pearkes, VC, PC, CC, CB, DSO, MC, CD (1888-1984) earns the Victoria Cross at the battle of Passchendaele, Belgium.... After serving two years in the Royal Northwest Mounted Police (RNWMP) Constable Pearkes resigned from the RNWMP where he was working in the Yukon to serve in the 5th Canadian Mounted Rifles, Canadian Expeditionary Force during WWI. He was awarded the Victoria Cross while serving in the 5th His citation for the Victoria Cross stated On 30 October 1917 near Passchendaele, Belgium, Major Pearkes, although wounded in the right thigh, continued to lead his men with the utmost gallantry, despite many obstacles. It was entirely due to his determination and fearless personality that he was able to maintain his objective with the small number of men at his command against repeated enemy counter-attacks. His appreciation of the situation and the reports rendered by him were invaluable to his commanding officer. He showed throughout a supreme contempt of danger and wonderful powers of command and leadership. He was wounded five times in WWI and received numerous awards and citations. Pearkes never returned to the Mounted Police. Instead he had an illustrious career as a soldier retiring as a Major General, and then in 1945 he entered politics and was elected to represent Nanaimo, British Columbia and was appointed the Minister of Defence in the Diefenbaker government. In 1967, he was made a Companion of the Order of Canada and in 1968 he became the 20th Lieutenant Governor of the Province of British Columbia. One of the many honours accorded Pearkes was the naming of a 53 RCMP Patrol Vessel (MP90) after him in 1973. He died at the age of 95 in 1984 and was buried at Section 4 West, Holy Trinity Cemetery, West Saanich, Sidney, Victoria, British Columbia.
