All ready for our Snowflake Christmas dinner at West Country Hearth.
Thanks to the generosity of our residents, families and staff we raised $1679.00 for our local food banks. Amazing what we can accomplish when we work together. Merry Christmas everyone.
One of our talented residents has spent the year making blankets for the Youth Emergency Shelter. This should be a reminder to all of us, the power we have to impact our world positively. Even in a COVID year we can bring happiness to others.
Congratulations to one of our amazing board members. Loreen Brenneis has been on the West Sturgeon People Aging in Place Foundation board for the past 19 years and was nominated this year as one of Sturgeon County's Volunteers of the Year. Normally there would have been a wonderful supper and awards presentation, however I think Sturgeon County came up with an impressive COVID friendly alternative. Loreen, your one of the reasons West Country Hearth is such an amazing place. Thanks for all you do!!

Our residents loved spending time with this little black sheep.
Look who came to visit our seniors at West Country Hearth. I love our Recreational Department.
I love the creativity of our recreation staff. What a great activity for our dementia residents. Thanks Krista.
Today we had a wonderful group of children visit WCH. They decorated our sidewalk and painted windows. It was amazing to see the positive impact this had on our residents and staff. Thanks for making today special
As we celebrate National Nursing Week (May 11 - 17), I would like to take this time to acknowledge the amazing nursing staff at West Country Hearth. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic we are blessed to have dedicated, hardworking and passionate staff who care for our residents everyday. Many who go above and beyond to provide exceptional care for our residents. Take a moment this week to thank a nurse.
We just had 60+ vehicles drive through our parking lot showing their appreciation for the staff of WCH. Thanks for the support. It means so much in these challenging times. Many of our staff had tears in their eyes.
We would like to thank all of our Wonderful Volunteers for their Countless hours, dedication and compassion! Happy Volunteer Week!
Here is another chapter of "The Musings of an Inmate" written by one of our very talented residents at WCH. Enjoy!! Chapter 3: Yardstick and Tape Measure Well a new day begins! Who knows what's in store for today, life really is a surprise, and it's good we don't know what's ahead. I've heard it said if you want to make God smile tell Him your plans. Our plans for today are to obey the rules, stay well and keep a good thought; I think He would be agreeable, so I'm going wi...Continue reading
A wonderful lady dropped off a gift bag for each of our residents today. We are so blessed, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, to have people who help make our world a little happier. Thank you!!!
As many of you know WCH has been in Lock Down since March 16th in an effort to reduce the impact of COVID-19. As you can imagine this places hardships on our residents in not being able to see their families, not able to participate in recreation activities and not able to interact as they usually do with other residents. I received this story yesterday from one of our residents who provides a humorous account of the current situation. I hope you take the time to read her ...Continue reading
Bingo at WCH embracing social distancing.
As our world continues to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic it is easy to feel frustrated, concerned and even a little scared. At WCH we have been on Lock Down since Monday in an effort to keep our residents healthy. We are adjusting to our new "normal" and so far so good. Today I asked my staff to think about what they are grateful for and what positive impacts COVID-19 has had on their world. Some of their responses: Grateful to have a job Grateful for friends and family ...A pray that kindness will guide us, understanding can lead us and patience can temper our fears Grateful for the life God has given me Grateful for all the little things that people do to put a smile on my face Grateful for the extra time to clean out cupboards and bake Grateful for the residents who make me feel I'm doing good in this world! I am grateful for my job where I can give back to others As we continue to deal with COVID-19 in the coming weeks, let us remember to be grateful and to have a positive impact on those around us. Last week we were entertained by the student's of Muriel Martin Elementary School. Our residents loved the lunchtime performance. Thanks Muriel Martin for sharing the Christmas music.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. The Christmas season has officially started at West Country Hearth. A huge thank you to our volunteer elves who decorate our building every year.
This was sent to me by one of our WCH nurses. Way to go Jamie, your on-line education is all up to date. Great job!!!!
