So... today is International Mountain Day! The theme of International Mountain Day 2020 is "Biodiversity." We in the Okanagan are truly blessed to have so many beautiful mountains with breathtaking views and incredible biodiversity. Did you know that British Columbia is the most biologically diverse province or territory in Canada? How lucky are we! ... To honour this day, we want to highlight a very well-known mountain: Mount Boucherie! Mount Boucherie is named after Isadore Boucherie, an early settler that farmed and raised livestock in both Rutland and Westbank. In the late 1880s, Isadore purchased the land which is still known today as Boucherie Ranch. The mountain behind this ranch was subsequently named after Mr. Boucherie as well (Gellatly, Dorothy Hewlett: A Bit of Okanagan History). To learn about the geography of our beautiful Mount Boucherie, check out this article. http://ow.ly/WhuJ50CJoxp #Mountainsmatter #Internationalmountainday

It may be dreary outside, but it's looking like spring at the Westbank Museum! Check out these beautiful handmade crochet flowers that were recently donated to us. This bouquet took about a year to complete! Do you crochet? What is your favourite piece that you've made?

Happy Tuesday! All of us are facing these provincially mandated restrictions, so it may be hard to find fun things to do, especially with the kiddos! If you're looking for a fun activity, why not try the self-guided Twinkle Tour? This year, a scavenger hunt can also be completed on the tour. Click on the link below to learn more, and to print off your scavenger hunt lists! ... If you take any photos along your journey, don't forget to tag the City of West Kelowna. Good luck and have fun! http://ow.ly/gxqz50CAPda

Hello, everyone. Today, the Westbank Museum would like to remember those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom, including many Westbank and Westbank First Nations men and women. While this year looks a little different, there are many ways you can thank those who have served/are serving in the military: Wear a poppy, thank a veteran, watch a broadcasted ceremony, and/or take a 2 minute moment of silence at 11:00AM. "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow ol...d: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them." #Lestweforget

Good morning everyone! The Christmas season is nearing, and with the uncertainty of Covid-19 in respect to the holidays, the museum has decided that it would be in our best interest to cancel the annual Christmas Craft Fair. We are very sad to announce this, but we feel that for at least this year, we do not feel comfortable hosting an event of this size. We will of course revisit and re-evaluate the situation next year. Again, we are very sad to announce this and we apolog...ize for any inconvenience. If you are looking for Christmas/holiday craft fairs that will be taking place this year, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will do our best to assist with your inquiry. We also suggest you check out http://ow.ly/IBnQ50CbIhX for a current list of upcoming events.
