Switching gears as we prepare for the coming winter. We have been busy with deep cleaning coops and runs, laying down fresh gravel, selecting grow outs for our 2021 breeding pens, deworming the flocks and general winterizing. Here are a few photos from around the farm lately. We are on a small hatching break as we accommodate our birds’ cycle of moulting and rejuvenation. These come in Blue Copper, Black Copper, Lavender, solid black or blue, black or blue barred (cuckoo). The cross is Crested Cream Legbar x Blue or Black Copper Marans. Or Crested Opal Legbar x Lavender Marans. Result is a delightfully colourful good sized bird with crests, sometimes feathered shanks, and high production of large medium to dark olive coloured eggs.

Lavender Marans started pullets age six weeks old. These ones have all sold, but it doesnt take much to raise them yourself from chicks.

Heres a photo sent to us by customer Nicki Gurr of the beautiful speckled eggs she is getting from her Mars Bar pullets she raised from chicks from us. So beautiful Mars Bar eggs can vary from this colour to dark olive or even chocolate brown sometimes.

A day in the life of.... ~Our Lavender Marans~ To say I love these birds is an understatement. Personality plus, big, friendly, quiet and easy going, gorgeous iridescent lavender sheen with straw coloured highlights. ... Eggs they hatched from are dark and I cannot wait to see what they produce. This group is still young but showing everything I like to see so far.
