Hello gardeners and wannabe gardeners. I just heard that grocery prices are estimated to go up again in the coming year. Yet another reason to grow as much as you can, in your own backyard (or balcony, floathome, front yard, etc.). Growing food is such a wonderful experience and West Coast Foodscapes is all about getting you set up for success. Check our website https//:www.westcoastfoodscapes.ca for more information on what services we provide and look at our photo albums right here on Facebook to see some of our work for happy clients. And by the way, it’s December and I’m still bringing lettuce in from my garden.

Well, it's been an interesting fall season for growing. What looked to be the winter rainy season in September abated and October was lovely. If your vegetables are in a sunny location it should be a decent growing season for you. On the other hand, if they aren't, which can easily be the case since the sun does not rise and fall and move across the sky the same in fall as it does in the summer, you may have been disappointed by your fall lettuce. I was reminded very quickly ...of this back in September. I had only two areas open for fall planting. One of which was a new garden this summer. I knew there wouldn't be as much sun but I went for it anyway. Well, I have been sorely disappointed. There are some greens to show for it, but they have taken forever to get to a cutting height. I already know the areas of my yard that get the most sun but I wanted to utilize the existing garden space available. As the days get shorter, the plants have less sunlight (to enable them to grow!). No sun, no grow! So, study where the sun falls throughout the year. Yes, some of you may be able to grow in the same place all through the seasons, while others may have trees, fences or buildings reduce or eliminate the sunlight that falls on the garden. Don't fool yourself into believing the sun won't be lower in the sky this fall/winter, like I did. If you need to, put seeds in pots that you can move around to the best locations. Happy growing! Check us out at https://www.WestCoastFoodscapes.ca to discover the services we can offer you to help make your garden grow. P.S. I wouldn't let my paying customers do what I did. But I don't mind sharing my experiences to help you avoid the same folly. See more

We had the pleasure to install two garden beds for local retailer Mother Nature. If you aren't already familiar with the store, Mother Nature sells high quality gifts, plants and garden equipment as well as, high quality pet food and supplies. These garden beds will give customers the opportunity to see how an edible garden can be utilized through the seasons. We installed hoops on the beds which enables the gardener to use insect barriers, plastic, shade cloth or any number of beneficial tools at the gardener’s disposal.
