As a refillery we pride ourselves in being able to refill your personal bottles and jars. Recently we have been given the go ahead by Island Heath to refill personal containers under three qualifications. Your bottle must be empty, clean and thoroughly dried on the inside and out. We are thrilled to be able to do this for you but please note that if your container doesnt meet these qualifications we wont be able to refill. Over the past couple months we have implemented a b...ottle deposit system. This involves us supplying you with bottles for a small fee which is refunded to you when you bring back that bottle empty, clean and dry. Worm composters are an easy and efficient way to quickly compost a variety of food and other scraps found around the home. The resulting worm castings create a nutrient rich compost to use as a powerful soil additive. The liquid reservoir is known as compost tea, mix 1 part tea and one part water to make your own fertilizer for plants! Day 1: On the bottom of the lower tray base lay 2 sheets of water soaked newspaper. Soak of your coconut block and shredded newspaper w...ith 2 litres of water and spread the mixture lightly over the newspaper in the bottom of your tray. Add 1 pound of worms, red wiggler are available for purchase through our online store! Set your upper tray and lid on top and let your worms get used to their new home in a cool dark location of your home. Day 2: Feeding day! Start feeding your worms scraps such as most fruits, vegetables, cereals, grains etc. but be aware they do not like meat, dairy, salty foods, grass clippings, citrus etc. Do your research if youre unsure what products your worms will eat. Later: After several weeks the worms have done their work and its time to move to the upper tray. Repeat the coconut brick and newspaper mixture step and add food. Your worms will slowly migrate into the upper tray and begin the process again. Happy worms are productive worms! If you have lots of hungry worms and need to expand your composter the expansion tray set is just what you need. The set comes with 2 extra trays and an extra coconut brick to make more bedding. Try out the stain stick! This stain remover is small but mighty, battling anything from red wine to oil marks. Simply wet the stain, rub the stick directly on the spot, fold the fabric in half and scrub to lift the stain even more, then throw it in the wash. Plain and simple! TruEarth laun...dry strips are pretty well known in the zero waste sphere by now, youve probably seen them pop up on your Facebook or Instagram! If this is your first time hearing about laundry strips; its a convenient strip of detergent youd use instead of liquid or powder soap. No measuring required and just one strip per load. Wool dryer balls are used for a variety of reasons but they specialize at reducing drying time. We finally received our order of dish brushes just in time for the Plastic Free July feature on kitchen essentials! Today we are highlighting a variety of plant based washing up tools (ps. we have biodegradable dish soap too). The famous dish brush! This beechwood bush is sporting tampico fibre bristle to safely scrub away grime. The best part of this tool is that brush head is replaceable! When the bristles are looking tired and frazzled just pull the top off and pop on a ne...w top for maximum scrub action. On the left side of the jar we have the vegetable brush. You can use this handy scrubber for whatever your heart desires such as washing out the tub etc. but it also works wonders on those carrots and yams. The simplicity of a traditional floor mop popular throughout Cuba and many southern states in the US, with the bonus of being hand made in Abbotsford, BC Canada using locally grown hemlock and a small wedge of African Purple Heart for a sturdy construction. Get your bottles ready! Our doors will officially be open again to welcome customers shopping in person this Tuesday June 16th! For the time being our hours will be 10am-5pm Tuesday through Saturday, closed on Sundays and Mondays until things pick up again. In compliance with Island Health, all personal bottles and containers must be EMPTY, CLEAN and DRY without exception. They will be sprayed down and sanitized before being handled by our staff and only two customers will be... allowed in the shop at a time to allow for social distancing. We encourage customers to utilize the hand sanitizer by the door upon entering as well. Our shop has been rearranged to allow for better flow and social distancing and we remind you to heed the words of your mom and Look with your eyes, not with your hands while browsing to avoid unnecessary surface contact. Its been a crazy three months of trying to figure out how to completely change our entire business model of a Refillery to remain as zero waste as possible when we werent actually allowed to refill anything. Learning on the fly how to set up on line orders for pickup and delivery, dealing with suppliers who were completely closed down, ever changing health policies, staff having to move away for a while, twin 5 year olds without school or programs needing me to stay home with them, and worry over friends and family living in areas way more affected by COVID-19 than we were. A huge THANK YOU to all of you who continued to shop with us by ordering online or via the phone for pickups and deliveries. Your support allowed us to meet our rent when our landlord flat out told us things were business as usual when clearly they were not.
