As we navigate this new world where masks are our are normal, we have to consider the impact of wearing a mask on individuals with communication impairments or hearing losses. This is a great fact sheet with some great tips
When you come to your in person sessions, please wear a mask.
What a fabulous initiative.

As we get ready to re-open our clinic, we are looking for your family's favourite hand washing songs. Here is one we like at the clinic. Please let us know what you sing while washing:)
Slow and steady wins the race. While we will continue to see the majority of our clients through telehealth, we now have the option to see some of you in the clinic. We can't wait to see you.
Contest for the Public - Preschool and School: Speech and Hearing BC would like to thank all the parents who are supporting children at home and taking the time to read together. Did you know reading with your child helps develop speech and language skills? May is Speech and Hearing Month in Canada and we want to celebrate! You can help us celebrate by: Taking a photo of yourself and your child reading at home together... Post it on Instagram and tagging @speechandhearingbc with the hashtags #wereadtogetherbc and #speechandhearingBCcontest or email it to Speech and Hearing BC. You'll then be entered to win $150 for you and your child to spend at a local bookstore near you plus $500 for your child's school library or local/community library. There will be a prize for a preschool and a school-aged child. Note use of the hashtags grants permission to Speech and Hearing BC to publish your photo and user information on its website and social media channel.
The photos are such a thoughtful idea.
Just in case you had not thought about this.
What a great bunch of SLPs we have at West Coast Speech. Here we are after discussing all of our tele-practice successes with our fabulous clients as well as our plans for the future. Thank you for believing in us.
Happy May is Speech and Hearing Month. It is a month for Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists to promote our profession and share our love for our jobs. In my humble opinion the most important thing is the ability to communicate effectively. That is why we love to help people improve their articulation, their voice, their fluency, their language and their pragmatic/social language. We are here to help you. #communicateawareness #speechhearbc #slpeeps #sac.oac #sacoac
His words are so true and that is why I love to work with people who stutter.
We miss you all and appreciate that everyone is taking COVID19 seriously by staying home.
Our office manager, Chantal, is showing how she makes one of her succulents.
Our clinic just doesn't feel the same without the hustle and bustle of playing children. Does anyone else miss these pictures? Thank you to our client's siblings for drawing these for our waiting room. Here's to a new Zooming relationship.
Have a look at Chantals amazing art.
Covid-19 is making us do some awesome things: on line therapy. Who's in?
What a wonderful visual. Now let's change the wording to Physical Distancing instead of Social Distancing because we do not want to socially distance ourselves when this is the time we need the social support of others.
Phenomenal Resource.
As I spend more time on line during these days of COVID-19 I am finding some feel better resources. This is one I thought I would share. https://www.mind.org.uk/inf/coronavirus-and-your-wellbeing/
As we gear up to provide telehealth services for our clients you will find a lot of useful information on our website. Please have a look at http://www.westcoastspeech.com/?p=853
In an effort to keep our clients, family and community safe during this COVID pandemic, we have made the difficult decision to close the WCSLP clinic effective today. The clinic will remain closed until March 31st and possibly longer. This will depend on the direction of the Provincial Health Authority. We will be offering telehealth options in the near future for those clients who would like to continue with their sessions in this fashion.
COVID19 During this uncharted time of COVID-19 we will continue to have the health and safety of our clients as our priority. As a result, we will continue to follow infection control guidelines which means that we will clean and sanitize between each patient and we will ask our clients to wash their hands before we begin therapy. As it is difficult to clean the toys in the waiting room between client visits, we have removed all toys and books for the time being. Lastly, prior to each therapy session, we will ask you a few screening questions as this has been suggested as best practice during the COVID19 times. Your patience and understanding is very much appreciated. If you have any questions, please talk to us.
With all of the fears regarding the Corona virus we wanted to take this time to let you know how we are dealing with this within our clinic. -For our therapy sessions that involve sharing snack time, we will ask all clients to wash their hands before and after we have snack. This is a great opportunity to practice our ABC song :) -Between client sessions we will wash all surfaces with Clorox wipes or soap and water. This includes our tables, chairs, door handles and ligh...t switches. - We will wash all toys after each use. - Clinicians will wash their hands between each session. - Lastly, we will remove toys and books from the waiting room as we do not have the staff to clean them after children use them. If you have concerns or suggestions regarding how we can all stay healthy, please talk to us. If you are feeling sick or your child is feeling sick, please stay home. We will waive the cancellation fee for illnesses. Sincerely, WCSLP
