New Service at Motor Registration.

Improvements at Motor Registration Enhance Customer Service At an event today at Motor Registration Division (MRD) in Mount Pearl, the Honourable Sarah Stoodle...y, Minister of Digital Government and Service NL, announced that new drivers can now complete their class 5 drivers permit test electronically through their MyGovNL account. Residents of the province can create a MyGovNL account using their email address. Then, by linking either a MRD issued photo identification card or MCP card, eligible candidates may access the online driver’s test. Like the paper-based format, the electronic test consists of two parts: road sign recognition test and knowledge-based questions. Both parts must be completed successfully to pass the test. Once successful, the individual is directed to schedule an appointment at MRD, or their nearest Government Service Centre, to complete the permit. During the visit, staff will verify the documents, review the test results, conduct a vision test and process the individual’s photo. With consistently high call volumes, Motor Registration Division has updated their customer service tools to reduce caller wait times and provide a better experience. If you choose to call, you will be given an expected wait time, the option to receive a call back or leave a voicemail. Since the introduction of a five-year Digital Government plan in 2018, the Provincial Government has progressively transformed the way services are delivered in Newfoundland and Labrador. Online service options have been useful in complementing traditional services during the COVID-19 pandemic, and online driver permit testing is in line with the digital government response to the public health emergency. MyGovNL registration has grown by approximately 2,000 per cent since March 2020 to more than 164,000 users. This improved system will provide clients with more options and better guide them through the process. I just completed my Novice driving course with Western Driving School. This has been the most rewarding experience. Passing the drivers test was a breeze thanks to the in-class and on-the-road sessions. Highly recommended.

After finishing the first sessions online for the Novice program I am extremely pleased with the results. The online program gives the students more incentive to participate in answering question and more interaction verses in a classroom setting as they are in their own home learning, their own space without any judgement. At the last class I asked the students and they all stated that they learned more from the presentations verses reading a book and giving them my experi...ences gave them more information and perspectives for their driving skills. They all learned so much especially as I was able to relate to situations as with my work experience as being a previous Driver Examiner for Motor Registration for 9 years and a Driver instructor for 8 years and over 20 years experience working at Motor Registration. I am so enthusiastic about the online teaching and that I cant wait for the next session to start. I am so pleased with the zoom online teaching and what I can give each student to set them for the rest of their driving life, as its not just about teaching them just to pass their road test its all about how they will drive and remember what was learned to steer them in the right direction to be safe and courtesy drivers. I like to thank the first class as you made leaps and bounds and overall a huge milestone for Western Driving School, I am so grateful and appreciative that you have chosen Western Driving School as your school of choice. We had the first online class and to say the least I am very pleased, actually I thought it would be much more difficult however it wasnt. Update: July 14, 2020 Zoom Class 1 This evening we will be having our first online zoom class, all students that are registered has received emails please check your email, there is very important information that you need to do before joining.... Class for the NOVICE program will restart on Tuesday July 14, 2020. For those that have registered I sent out emails last evening to a few students requiring additional information, please respond by today, as I will be sending out the information regarding the first class. Update June 17, 2020 Our pilot project for online teaching will be presented to Motor Registration on June 29, 2020, in anticipation that it will be approved or have to make changes to meet Government guidelines we are hoping to start our first online session either July 7 or July 14. Online Classes will be Tuesdays and Thursdays and it will be presented through a secure site Zoom, I have an IT Specialist that has it encrypted and will be in attendance of the classes to e...nsure safety. We are currently updating our website that you can apply online and make payments via online. Right now private lessons you can book your own road test via Motor Registration and still use our vehicle however we will need a minimum of two weeks notice of your appointment and your appointments has to be in the afternoon, this is due to the availability of appointments for our Driving School, as we are permitted to have two appointments per day and we are booked with pre-Covid students. We will try our absolute best to help you in any way we can. Thank you all for your patience, as you all can understand trying to organize 3 months of backlog when we were closed.
