The Meet Your Neighbour Men's Club will be holding it's Annual Fall Auction, for the 64th consecutive year, on October 27th, 2018 @ 7:00 pm at the Scotch Ridge Hall. 2018 Club President, Peter CHRISTIE, says that as usual there will be lots of great items up for auction, including goods and services donated by local businesses, home baking, home canning / preserves, home knitting, crafts and woodworking; and yes, there might be a few famous "woopie pies"!!! The St. James Pastoral Charge of the United Church of Canada is planning a Yard Sale on June 2nd, 2018, to be held at the Scotch Ridge Hall. They would appreciate any donations! If you have surplus goods after spring cleaning, clothing the family has out grown, or are just plain decluttering, they would gladly accept your items. The Scotch Ridge Hall will be open on Sunday afternoon (May 27) and on Wednesday and Thursday evening (May 30th and 31st) to accept donations. Or call Kay Reid at 466-5820 for more info. http://westerncharlotte.ca/st-james-pastoral-charge-seeks-/

New bird song around these parts (Mayfield) is turkey gobbling. Yesterday morning I heard gobbling close to house, and found a hen being courted by two toms right by the front of our house, under one of our bird feeder stations. Got treated to the full "display" strut of the toms. Pretty birds from the neck down! From the neck up, not so much!!! http://westerncharlotte.ca/look-at-me-arent-i-beautiful/

It's a beautiful sunny morning. First time in days there is some strength in the sun's rays. Hints of green showing in the fields. Maybe, just maybe, the long winter is over. As I look out this morning, I see deer grazing in the fields, I see a tom Wild Turkey strutting his stuff, in hopes of luring a hen. Through the open door, I can hear a male Northern Cardinal's beautiful song. [ 62 more words ] http://westerncharlotte.ca/signs-of-spring/

We've been having multiple Wild Turkey sightings around the place the last few weeks. Mainly seeing a group of hen turkeys but no toms, until yesterday. Saw this individual bird in the field, and with the help of binoculars, saw that it was a tom. I had never heard a wild turkey gobble and was excited when this fellow started to gobble, and continued to gobble after he went into the woods. A large crowd of over 130 folks came out on Saturday, October 28th, 2017 in support of the Meet Your Neighbour Men's Club, 63rd Annual Fall Auction. The Scotch Ridge Hall was initially set up with chairs for 115, all of which were quickly filled forcing Men's Club organizers to find more seating. At some points the overflow were seated on pieces of handmade furniture which were auction items. [ 130 more words ] http://westerncharlotte.ca/mens-club-auction-huge-success/
