An update from With This Ring...Bridal Gala

Westerner Park 23.12.2020

2020 has been quite the year! Since March, the bulk of the events that typically take place at Westerner Park were postponed or canceled. This was challenging for all of us, but also has given us the opportunity to take time to strategically refocused our organization. As we look to the new year, and plan for when we can gather again, we will be reaching out to you for feedback on how we can continue to serve our event organizers, guests, and community. ... Let's start with a fun question, what is your most memorable experience at Westerner Park?

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through Westerner Park Not an event was stirring, and all the venues were dark; The facilities were maintained by the team with care, ... In hopes that people would soon be there. The staff and volunteers were all grateful they said, While visions of gathering together danced in their head; And event organizers and guests sipped from their cup, Patiently waiting for things to open up. When out at the gates there arose such a clatter, We sprang from our desks to see what was the matter. Away with the restrictions, a new year at last! Healthy and safe, the pandemic had passed. From our Westerner Park family to yours, we wish you a safe, healthy, and happy holidays and look forward to when we can celebrate together again!

What's in a name? Have you ever wondered why we call our arena the "Centrium"? In the late 1980's when funding was approved and planning was well underway, the name selected for the area was "Centrium" "Cen gave nod to the importance of the location in Central Alberta, and recognizing that the construction would be complete during Westerner Park’s centennial year (1991). ... Tri indicated that there were three components to the complex and that funding came from three sources, The YourAlberta (Government of Alberta), The City of Red Deer and Red Deer County. Ium was derived from the usual suffix for large sports and convention facilities. The name reflected not only the tremendous importance of the development but also the optimism for future prospects. Following a century of progress, the best was yet to come! Tourism Red Deer, Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies

It was over 3 decades ago that the famous greens seats were purchased, so it took us a little digging with some of our long term employees to get to the root of the colour. In fact, it's a very practical reason. The original colour of the plastic for the seats is green, any other colour of seats would have involved adding dye, and thus increasing the costs. In true Westerner fashion, we went with the most cost-effective, practical option and the green seats served us well!

Supporting Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies is part of our commitment to the agriculture industry. Recently we were able to donate 100s of arena seats to the Benalto Agricultural Society. They will repurpose them, saving money and offering an environmentally conscious second life for the seats. Sustainability and collaboration is the corner store of our ag societies. The Benalto Ag volunteers expressed their gratitude and mentioned they look forward to continui...ng to provide volunteers and support for CFR Red Deer. **How were we able to donate seats? Stay tuned!

Over the last 9 months, we've had the time to work on our organization. This includes everything from identifying ways to improve our guests' experience and strategically refocusing our organization, to something as simple as a signage audit. **Does anyone recognize these signs?
