Picked up this Fuji to mess around with and it’s been wicked fun. Don’t tell Canon. This will be boring to most of you, but if you’re a camera nerd, message me and I’ll walk you through the evolution of the cameras I’ve used over the years...starting with my first Sony handycam. What do you shoot on?!

Our biggest project of 2020 was this one for the Thunder Bay CEDC. The pandemic had many people reconsidering where and how they were doing life. "Work from home" was instantly thrust on us all. If your home office was now 5, 10 or 20 kilometres away from your employer, then couldn't it be 1400? Or perhaps there was a totally new work opportunity here that would take you away from the densely populated urban centres. We were tasked with showing what Thunder Bay could offer those people that are considering making a move. We barely scratched the surface. It is now 2021 Thunder Bay, let's all get after it. Happy New Year!!!

Another fave of 2020 was this spot for the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra. A new client to us and maybe the most unique location we have ever filmed in, the abandoned OPG plant on Mission Island. It was a packed shoot, with over 20 musicians to be filmed in roughly 6 hours. Quick decisions on the exact framing and lighting setup for each scene needed to be made all day. This was one of those projects that we weren't exactly sure what we had after the shoot. The edit was where... this spot really came to life. The majority of the feedback and engagement we received on this video was from a vastly different audience demographic which was really cool to see. Project Highlight: getting to work with a bunch of ridiculously talented creatives.

Next on Westfort's 2020 hit list was this spot for De Bakker & de Bakker - Lawyers. This was absolutely one of our favorite videos of the past year. It was one of those projects that with some planning and a lot of luck everything seemed to fall in place. The concept, script, voice over, actors, and music all felt like they meshed really well to us. Project Highlight: staying really fluid throughout this project and letting layers get folded in as we went. IE: asking Johnny for some paper and crayons to add in the courtroom artist 30 seconds before filming that scene.

This spot for Lakehead Overhead Door was another one of our favorite projects of 2020. Depending on the creative concept, budget, or delivery deadline, a simple and succinct idea can be the way to go. We get through the setup to pay off pretty quickly in this one but believed it still carried some good impact. Project Highlight: how many times we had to refill Bo's cheezies between takes :) Nik Fiorito

Listen closely...all the sounds you hear were added in post-production. A great audio mix with proper sound design breathes life into video which is precisely what our friend Jordan Wiberg from The Okanagan Mixing Studio has done with our projects for the past few years. The guy is absolutely brilliant and a real beauty to work with. He also might be the only guy with a faster project turnaround time than us. Clients: When we tell you we’re "sending it to get mixed", this is where it’s going.

There is going to be another friendly face hanging around the Westfort Productions office now. Patrick Chondon is officially joining the crew!! We have been a fan of Patrick's work for a long time and recently he's been partnering with us on multiple video and photography projects. Patrick has an incredible way of telling a story through his work and we are very excited to add his talents to our team in a larger capacity. Just a few hurdles remain that Patrick will need to o...vercome to get through his 30-day probationary period: 1. Official Name Change to Popowich 2. Put on 45 lbs 3.
