Seniors Scam Warning!! Alberta Health Services (AHS) is warning seniors in Alberta to be aware of misleading telephone calls regarding COVID-19 immunizations. There have been reports of people over the age of 75 receiving phone calls to book their COVID-19 immunizations. Some of these calls are requesting a payment for the vaccine. Public immunization is not open at this time. AHS is not making direct phone calls to Albertans to book their COVID-19 vaccinations. AHS will never call and ask for payment for COVID-19 immunization services. Please hang up immediately and report by calling the non-emergency line for local law enforcement.

With the authorization of a COVID-19 vaccine in Canada, Canadians may be wondering: - What are the steps to follow to develop a vaccine? - What is a clinical ...trial? - What needs to be assessed? All vaccines in Canada must follow a well-established process to ensure their safety, efficacy and quality. In order to be authorized, vaccines must go through a rigorous review process demonstrating that the benefits outweigh the risks. Since the start of COVID-19, Alberta has seen a continuing decrease in the number of new cancers being diagnosed. This change is similar across Canada and the world. Before the pandemic, approximately 2,000 Albertans were diagnosed with cancer each month. During the pandemic, there are approximately 20% fewer diagnoses no matter where people live or their age. This means approximately 500 people each month are not being diagnosed. Why wait to seek medical attention when you n...eed it? Detecting and managing cancer early saves lives. Despite the ongoing pandemic, your doctor wants to ensure you are taking care of your health, and wants to see you, especially if you notice changes in your health or changes in your body. We have added phone appointments to doctors schedules and put extra cleaning and distancing protocols in place to continue to keep you safe during your visit and the healthcare system has been and continues to be open to help, including to diagnose and manage cancer. Seeking advice and care from your doctor is important for all aspects of your health, particularly for potentially life-threatening diseases that can be avoided by early diagnosis such as cancer. If you have any unexplained, new, worsening or persistent changes, seek care from your family doctor. Symptoms are often caused by other, non-cancerous illnesses, but it is important to speak with doctor so they can investigate. SYMPTOMS There are symptoms you can look for, and if you experience any of them, book an appointment with your doctor immediately. Examples of these include: -An unusual or growing lump -Blood in your stool, urine, or phlegm, especially if persistent or associated with other symptoms related to your bowels (pain, constipation), urination (pain, frequency, poor stream), or breathing (worse cough or shortness of breath). Also, unusual bleeding from vagina, especially in postmenopausal women. -Any changes to a mole -Trouble urinating for men, such as needing to pee right away, more often, with difficulty or pain. -Unexplained significant weight loss (>10%) For a full list of symptoms go to: https://myhealth.alberta.ca/cancersymptoms If your doctor suspects cancer, they will refer you for testing, such as imaging or biopsy and possibly to a specialist to plan any necessary treatment. Diagnosis at earlier stages can offer more treatment options and increase your chance of completing treatments that prolong or improve quality of life.

Covid is impacting our clinic. We currently have multiple staff, physicians and residents working from home. Please be patient during this time as we are working short-staffed in clinic. We do have some staff and physicians working from home. While they are working from home any calls they make will come from a blocked number. Please try to answer blocked numbers if you're expecting a call from Westgrove Clinic. If you're calling the clinic to speak with someone who is working from home, you may be asked to call back and dial their extension directly to connect to them over the phone, or we may ask to take a message and have someone call you back. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
