A great example of why you NEVER leave a burning candle unattended. Also, keep candles away from anything flammable. Be safe!

Our members did a controlled burn of some grass last evening. Despite the rain 2 nights prior, and the ground still saturated from the melting snow, this grass started very easily and burned very rapidly. We encourage you to be cautious when doing any yard clean up as an accidental spark could spread very quickly causing damage to yours or other properties.

A rapid snow melt has left us with our usual dry spring fire conditions. A fire restriction is in place for Westlock County and a Fire Ban is in place for the p...rovincially controlled green zone in the northern portion of the county. Westlock County Fire Services have responded to several outside fires caused by sparks from mowing, holdover burns from winter burning, and some structure fires. Please remember: - never leave your approved fire pit when having a campfire - fully extinguish campfires before leaving. One spark is all it takes to ignite your yard and more. - obey all fire restriction notices. Offences are usually ticketed and charged with burning against a control order, with no warnings given - invest in fire smarting your property. - Keep a long garden hose handy when having a campfire. Please help us keep everyone safe at this time of year.
