Stuart Shecter, Senior Account Manager North American society can be very fast-paced. I recently heard something that I found very relevant: in the same way that brushing our teeth is like a routine in our schedule that we do without even thinking, mindfulness and meditation are going to be that way in the coming years. We need to keep things in balance. Mindfulness is recognizing and understanding how we feel, why we feel that way, and what is triggering those feelings and ...emotions. Whether it's feelings of anger or sadness, it’s acknowledging the physical and emotional symptoms and effects so that we can manage ourselves before these become unmanageable. I think that’s what Movember is primarily about, and I don't think a lot of men grasp that. Your aim is to be proactive and not reactive to your physical and mental well-being. It’s a big buzzword, ‘Mindfulness’, but not that many people practice it. If you look at social media and books and magazines, you’ll see that it’s becoming much more mainstream. It’s necessary that people grasp it and start to practice or we’ll see more unmanaged emotions playing out in society through such things as increased chronic disease, domestic violence and suicides. From the minute you wake up to the minute you go to sleep you need to be in tune with your mind and your body. Mindfulness is an important tool in your toolbox to improve Men's Health and Health overall.

Every decision I make is calculated. I never do things without having a goal in mind. Coming to Canada was a calculated decision. Being a new immigrant is not easy when you’re on your own or you don’t have your family to support you. You come to a new country and the language spoken here is not what you used to speak back at home. But I never quit. Whatever happens, I’ll never quit. And I just keep this attitude with me. Change is the only thing in life that is permanent and... so keep changing and keep evolving. I would say this attitude was something I developed after coming to Canada. I don’t want to be a master of only one thing or be a jack of all trades. I want to be a master of all trades. This was Akash’s very first picture in Canada. The sculpture behind him is called the Spirit Catcher, which represents the Aboriginal people of Canada and is influenced by the Thunderbird. For those who aren’t familiar with Aboriginal mythology, the Thunderbird is a messenger who carries dreams and desires to the Creator.
