Yesterday we assisted North Shore Rescue as they managed three emergency rescues in the Cypress Mountain area. We are so grateful to work with such selfless SAR volunteers, who are willing to risk their own lives in order to help others. Please do them a favour. Be prepared.

Deputy Chief retires after career that spans over 3-decades Deputy Chief Constable Shane Barber has decided to hang up his belt, after serving the citizens of West Vancouver for over 32 years. There wasn’t a day that went by that I didn’t feel grateful for my job, said Deputy Barber when asked about the highlights of his career. I genuinely enjoyed making a positive difference in people’s lives.... Deputy Barber began his career with the West Vancouver Police in 1987 as a Patrol Constable. In the years since, he served in virtually every area of the WVPD, including Patrol, Traffic, Planning and Research, Training and Recruiting, and Criminal Investigations. He was promoted to Corporal in 1998, Sergeant in 2002, Staff Sergeant in 2008 and to the rank of Inspector in 2013 when he was assigned as the Officer In Charge of the Operations Division. Just prior to his departure, Deputy Barber was primarily responsible for leading the department's operations branch and the implementation of the WVPD Strategic Plan in areas that address operations performance or improvement. Deputy Barber is the recipient of two Chief Constable's Commendations, the Police Exemplary Long Service Medal from the Governor-General of Canada, and the Lieutenant-Governor's Award for Valour. Deputy Barber’s last day was September 29, and a new Deputy Chief Constable has been selected to fill his position. Inspector John Lo will step up as the new Deputy Chief Constable of the West Vancouver Police, beginning on October 1. We wish Deputy Barber all the best in his retirement and thank him for his many years of dedicated service.
