Improvements to the commercial area of Ambleside are underway as part of the Ambleside Town Centre Streetscape Standards project. The District has a cohesive and unified framework for ongoing and long-term development of public areas within Ambleside Town Centre, including improved sidewalks, crosswalks, trees and vegetation, lighting, and public art opportunities. The District is currently focusing on the area near 14th Street and Marine Drive. The improvements include larger corners, called bump-outs, that provide an expanded and safer area for pedestrians. Social gatherings in private homes are now limited to your immediate householdthe people who live in your home plus a maximum of six other people. This is a p...rovince-wide order that applies to all homes for all occasions. Similar to what happened this summer with vacation homes and rentals, we have seen a notable increase in new cases and transmission of COVID-19 as a direct result of social gatherings in private homes. Remember, when we come together with family and friends, we bring our risks with us and, in turn, they take those risks back home with them again. This is a critical time. We’re heading into cold and influenza season, and COVID-19 is still in our communities. The choices we make over the coming weeks will make a difference and will support our business and schools to stay open. Let’s choose to protect our communities and the ones we care for most. The order will be posted online in full detail in the coming days here: https://www.gov.bc.ca/phoguidance

The West Vancouver Streamkeepers are volunteers dedicated to maintaining the health of our creeks and streams, and this Saturday, October 17, they will be working at Rodgers Creek. Volunteers will be moving rocks near the mouth of the creek that have obstructed the creek path over the years and made it challenging for fish to move through the creek. With this minor work, the Streamkeepers are making big improvements to fish habitat.

High winds earlier today have caused power outages in West Van. View BC Hydro's outage map for the most up-to-date information: https://www.bchydro.com/power-outages/app/outage-map.html If you come across a downed or damaged line, always assume they are live, even if they're not sparking or making any sound. Follow these steps if you see a downed or damaged power line: Stay back at least 10 metres (33 feet). That's about the length of a city bus.... Dial 911 and let them know that a power line has fallen or is damaged. Keep others in the vicinity at least a bus-length away Read more: http://westvancouver.ca/power-outage.
