Dyson advertises their batteries to last 15 years. But then they only offer 2 year battery and parts warranties. Doesn't seem like they have much faith in their own product, especially when they are advertising them to replace the plug in vacuum. Keep in mind, when you buy a Dyson, the high price point is due to the amount of advertising they do. Dyson also doesn't have a very good track record when it comes to honesty.

A question we get asked a lot is, "why do I need a power head for my carpet? My vacuum has lots of suction." Answer: the spinning brush in a power head is what lifts the fibers of the carpet allowing the air to flow underneath to do a deeper clean. Without a spinning brush to open the pile, it is very hard to do a deep clean. In fact, a vacuum having lots of power without a proper power head can be a bad thing for you and your carpet as the vacuum may encounter "sealed suctio...n." This means the tool you are using may stick to the carpet like a suction cup and become very hard to push, and may hardly the clean the carpet at all due to the lack of air flow. To sum it up, use a proper power head for your carpet if you want reliable cleaning performance from your vacuum. Note: not all power heads are created equal. To find out which power head is best for you and your home, give us a call as we are more than happy to help!

Rechargeable vs Plug-in vacuums: Should you buy a rechargeable or a plug-in as the main vacuum? Answer: plug-in. Sure, rechargeable vacuums are great for quick pick-ups but they lack the power and build quality to be the main vacuum in a home. "But I only have a small apartement and have no capret. I don't need much power." Unfortunately, the dirt and dust will not vacuum up easier just because your home is small and a lot of the fine dust will get smeared along the floor. Re...chargeable vacuums are also bagless so there is a lot of maintenance involving emtying the container and cleaning the unit which can be a messy, un-hygienic job. Don't be fooled by the dirt that you see in the container as well. Bagless vacuums tend to whip up the dirt that goes inside which makes it look like a lot, but if you were to vacuum that dirt into a bagged vacuum, the dirt inside would look like hardly anything as it gets compacted inside the bag. You would probably have to emty a bagless container close to 50 times vs getting the same amount of dirt into 1 bag which is also much more hygienic. And remeber, you are limited to the charge time on a rechargeable so when the vacuum is out of juice, you can't vacuum for a bit. To sum it all up, use a plug-in vacuum as the main vacuum and use a rechargeable vacuum as a quick picker-upper. See more

The truth about Dyson Vacuums: Unfortunately, Dyson makes inaccurate claims regarding their vacuums and have been sued multiple times regarding false advertising. Are their products terrible? No. They are just simply not what they are claimed to be and are way over priced (this is partially due to the amount of advertisng they do). And on top of it, Dyson power heads void many of the major carpet manufacturer warranties in North America due to their poor design. Customers ask... us, "sure you don't like them, but people want them so why not just bring them in anyways"? This is due to the fact that we are technicians at West Van Vacuum, and in order to sell Dyson vacuums we would have to make the incredible claims they do which would make us liars, as we know how poorly engineered they are. Sure, Dyson vacuums aren't the worst vacuums, but why invest in one of those when you can get superior product like a Miele or Sebo. See more
