Here is the proposed playground for Westview Estates. Any comments?

We are excited to report that our delegation to Town Council was successful! Town Council approved the 2021 capital budget to include the remaining amount needed to construct the Westview Playground! We will be working with the Town of Taber to construct this playground in Spring 2021! Thanks to everyone for your support through this process.

It’s been a while since I posted because COVID-19 put a delay on almost everything. Unfortunately in July 2020, we were unsuccessful in getting an Alberta government grant that would have been enough to complete the project. Today, Tod Pickerell from the Kinsmen and Bruce Warkentin attended the town council meeting to obtain approval to have the Westview Estates Playground be given priority for 2021 capital budget considerations. We were successful in doing this. Currently..., we have about half the amount raised to build the playground so hopefully we can get the remainder through the town’s regular playground budget. There are no guarantees and we will continue to look for other grants in the mean time. We would still accept donations but aren’t actively asking for any during this difficult time. Our hope is to build the playground in 2021.

Still hopeful for construction in summer of 2020 but it will depend on some grants we have applied for. If you have bottles to donate, we won’t be doing a drive but you can take them to the bottle depot and say it’s for Westview Estates Playground account. You can also donate to the Town of Taber on ATB Cares website (www.atbcares.com) and desígnate to Westview Estates Playground. Thanks for your support!

We were hoping to report some exciting news for the construction of the Westview Estates Playground in August 2020; however, we were unsuccessful in obtaining a provincial grant that would have completed our fundraising goal. We have decided to postpone construction until spring 2021 to allow more time to pursue additional fundraising options. This will allow us more time to resubmit our provincial grant application; approach the Town of Taber for possible assistance; and find other grant options. We are committed to building a playground in Westview that will allow the kids in our neighborhood the ability to play in the summer of 2021. Thanks to all the sponsors who have generously supported this project so far and everyone for their patience.

We finally got word from ATB Cares on the final donation amounts for our MNP matching donation push for December. I am pleased to report that the Westview residents gave a total of $6,000! This was matched by MNP for another $6,000. In addition, MNP added another $4,000 to bring the total to $16,000 and brings our thermometer to $45,000! Thanks so much for the generosity of all who contributed!
