A cold, brisk morning greeted our Wasauksing traditional harvesters on December 15 to start off our first 2020 Traditional Harvest in Killbear Provincial Park. Wasauksing’s harvest dates were December 15 and 16, with Shawanaga’s harvest ending the week on December 17 and 18. The week welcomed community members of all ages to participate in this remarkable event. This week was more than just a harvest, as we as Anishinaabe people are notorious for, this week brought laughter,... smiles, knowledge sharing, joy, and excitement, both while walking through the bush scoping out fresh tracks and around the fire where hot dogs and marshmallows were abundant! We’re certain this experience will be cherished by all as we came together as families, as a community, and as Sister Nations. A tremendous leap towards relationship-building amongst Wasauksing, Shawanaga, and Killbear Provincial Park, who’s staff made themselves readily available to help in any way they can and learn about some of our traditions and teachings along the way. Thank you again to all! Photo Credit: Nikeeta Tabobondung
