This video is too long to use as a marketing piece - and I would never choose the music - but it is time to share as is! Isn't our province, and yes, the Whale Watcher House, spectacular! Book now at whalewatcherhouse.ca https://vimeo.com/357086945?ref=em-share

South of St. Johns in st. Michael’s, just 40 minutes from the city, and located right on the hiking trail! And the weather is fantastic! If you mention this video, I will offer a further 10% to my already low weekday rates. Go to www.whalewatcherhouse.ca to book. Or message me here. I’ll apply the discount.

The video this morning really doesn’t do the view justice. There’s an old song in my head by Neil Diamond, It’s a beautiful noise. The humpback off Great isla...nd? Well, they’re just eye candy. And I still have space this week at the Whale Watcher House. Go online at https://whalewatcherhouse.ca and book!

An early morning camera can capture tHe fog...the people ...the waves ... the old fish plant behind me... the decimated wharf.... but it can’t capture the head...y scent of the capelin on the beach, or the natter among the fisherman as they split the morning catch or the sound of the gulls hovering near by for breakfast. The camera can’t really capture the ambiance of fisher-watchers as they approach the scene. It’s quite a nostalgic and multi-sensory experience. And most of you know it well. Such scenes are in our DNA And yes they cut the tongues is out; and no they don’t cut the cheeks out; and yes the cast offs serves as crab bait; and yes we still do this, after hundreds of years, we just don’t do as much of it. And bless their hearts, no they couldn’t sell me any fish! And they kindly told me the commercial fisheries just around the corner. LOL

This monument in the town of Channel-Port aux Basque is to the brave officers, crew, and passengers of the SS Caribou, torpedoed in 1942. Similarly, John's gran...dfather, William Abbott, was on the SS Western Prince when it was torpedoed in December 1940. He was the ship's carpenter. William was awarded a medal for bravery as he helped many survive. Seventeen passengers and crew were lost, and sadly William was among them. He is remembered on a monument at the Marine Institute in St. John's and at Point Pleasant in Halifax We can never forget those who fought for our freedom and those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

This box of goodies is from Mother's Cupboard Candy and Bake Shoppe - newly opened in Paradise. It’s our second visit in two days. We demolished the box yesterd...ay so quickly, I didn’t even get a picture. This is a MUST VISIT ASAP kinda place. Word is starting to get out about how amazing their goodies are and I think soon enough they’ll be selling out. They’re into everything - baked goods, chocolate, candy, caramel corn. Honestly and truly some of the yummiest treats we’ve ever had.

My friend Nicole Victoria and I escaped last week to the Whale Watcher House in Burnt Cove for a mini wellness staycation. We enjoyed our stay tremendously. The... views from the deck are just stunning and you are just a couple of minutes from accessing the East Coast Trail to Doctor’s Cove then onto LaManche. (super easy and relatively short hike; less than 10km both ways) The property owner, Elaine Hann is so lovely and knowledgeable, and she has done a fantastic job of outfitting the property with all the comforts from home; right down to stocking the freezer with ice packs to take on your hike. She offers reduced rates throughout the week and a discount when you book multiple nights. https://whalewatcherhouse.ca/
