Spending time near water is a great way to observe, mimic and learn about how water functions. It's such a blessing to live in Canada because we see water in a variety of forms as the seasons change - liquid, frozen, vapour. Although winter has already surfaced, it might be hard to find interactive water activities such as canoeing or paddle boarding. However, you can take a hike/snowshoe trip around your local frozen pond, lake or river, observe the puddles of melte...d snow around your neighbourhood, enjoy outdoor winter sports such as skiing/snowboarding, or even place a vase of water with flowers near your work/living area! Water is a beautiful teacher. Take time to watch how it moves, how it adapts to the shape it's in, how flexible and yet stable it is. #water#elements#chinesemedicine#taoism#5elements#fiveelements#acupuncture#TCM#herbalism#oakville#halton#haltonregion#healthcare

We've been talking a lot about skin conditions, cosmetic acupuncture and face reading; now is time to talk about food as medicine. How can you support your skin through food? Well, we have a few suggestions! Bone Broth - we've talked about the many benefits of bone broth and its incredible nutritional value. One thing to note is the collagen drawn from the bones in bone broth is magical for the skin. It helps regenerate the skin! Pears, daikon radish & celery - If you a...re someone with too much heat in your body causing inflammation of the skin (rashes, rosacea, acne), pears, daikon radish and celery are soothing and cooling foods for the body. These foods will help reduce the heat in the body, ultimately reducing the inflammation response due to the excess heat. Goji berries - These little berries are a burst of antioxidant and are known to increase qi and blood circulation in the body, which is great for the skin! Turmeric - this vibrant spice works to reduce inflammation in the body! It definitely is a superfood and can be added to hot oat milk, curry dishes, rice, juices and smoothies. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, spicy foods, diary products and deep fried foods - these foods promote heat in the body and therefore will spike the inflammation response in the body causing skin conditions to worsen. Fuel your body with whole and nutrition foods that are prepared with love and compassion! #whatsgood#food#foodasmedicine#turmeric#acupuncture#chinesemedicine#TCM#holistic#wellness#oakville#haltonregion#halton#clinic# See more

Have you ever looked at someone's face? Like, REALLY looked at the lines, definition and features of someone's face? For most of us, the answer is no. But, according to Chinese Medicine this type of intense observation is called face reading. The lines and definition of ones face speaks loud and clear about their history on an emotional and psychological level!! HOW COOL, right? Here are some examples of specific wrinkle locations and what they might mean from Lillian Br...idges! Vertical lines between the brows is linked to the liver, which is also associated with anger. This doesn't mean you are in a state of outrage and anger 100% of the time. However, maybe you often find yourself in a state of frustration and irritability either at work, at home or in TRAFFIC (we've all been there!). Lines around the eyes (crows feet). If the lines are going up it illustrates the joy you have in your life and your ability to smile, laugh and enjoy. If the lines are going down towards the cheeks, it's a sign of sadness and and grief. This can be a deep rooted grief, or a more recent grief. Lines from the nose to the side of the mouth is associated with purpose! These don't often make an appearance until around 50 years old, when one is satisfied with their position in the world and their soul purpose. If the lines appear earlier then this is a great sign that one has a strong indication of their purpose. If the lines are very faint, then one is still seeking their purpose! Lines on the face can be changed and altered based on healing that is done on an emotional, physical and energetic level! It is also important to mention that elasticity does begin to diminish the longer we continue the same facial expression patterns and In the overall aging process!Wrinkles are not a bad thing, they are a blueprint of your experiences, your emotions and your energy! AND, they are a great catalyst for reflection. To finish up our Water Element series here, we have some suggestions for balancing the water element and living in harmony with the Winter season! Over the next few days we will share all our tips and tricks Move like calm water. Develop or build upon a practice that allows the body to move in a malleable and soothing way. Tai Chi, Qi Gong, gentle yoga, contemporary dancing and just free movement is a great place to start. These types of intuitive movement will calm th...e mind and gently strengthen the body. Imagine a cup of water; quick and rigid movements of the cup will cause water to over flow and splash over the sides or even cause the cup to completely empty by tipping it over. However moving the cup in a way that is fluid, smooth and cohesive will ensure the water stays as peaceful as possible very minimal disturbances. This is just like your body; give yourself permission to move in a tranquil way, allowing your mind to connect with your true essence, ultimately working to remove the chatter and chaos the mind creates. It is important to create a daily habit or routine practice of gentle movement as this will strengthen your Zhi. #5elements#waterelement#gentlemovement#Zhi#acupuncture#wellness#holistic#clinic#oakville#halton#water#taoism#TCM#chinesemedicine#positive#affirmation See more

When was the last time you paused and took a deep breath? Do you remember how good it felt to fill the lungs fully and then let it all go? As we learned a few posts back, the Po resides in the lungs and is responsible for living! By drawing in breath we give life (qi) to our entire body and support vitality and inspiration in our life (it's amazing how breathing can do SO much for us... right?!) Developing a meditation or conscious breathing practice encourages the body... to focus on slow calculated breath patterns. It's a time to focus on the element that nourishes the body and gives us energy. Conscious breathing slows down the nervous system and thus, calms down the Po spirit. When we slow the breath, we slow the mind and ultimately allow ourselves to tune in and hear the voice of our inner guru. Starting with 5 minutes of quiet time each day, where you focus on the breath will develop your practice! It can be anywhere - at your desk, on the couch, while making dinner, before you get out of bed, before you go to bed. Whatever time is convenient for you. If you are interested in doing a guided breath work session check out @bewithlove.ca - she hosts powerful breath work sessions that are easy to follow along with! Credit to @loriedechar @anewpossibility for all the wonderful teachings you have offered through your wisdom! #breath#meditation#5elements#fiveelements#acupuncture#healing#oakville#whatsgood#halton#alchemy#alchemichealing#wellness#holistic#wholehealing#alternativecare

As mentioned in a previous post, cosmetic aging and inflammation such as acne are a sign on stagnant energy in the body. Today, we are going to focus on talking about acne from a Chinese Medicine perspective. Acne is a very common issue at varying ages Often we think of acne happening in the teens years as a sign of imbalanced hormones, however acne can most certainly be experienced much later in life. No matter what age you are, acne can take a toll on ones mental heal...th. We live in a society where beauty standards are unachievable and any small imperfection can seem monstrous! So let's start by saying WE ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL just as we are! From a Chinese Medicine perspective, acne is a sign of excess heat and dampness that is stagnant in the body. This heat and dampness can present as different ailments in the body including digestive issues, inflammation and skin changes. Therefore it showing up as acne is not uncommon! If we reflect back on a previous post about face mapping, depending on where the acne is showing up on your face can be an indicator of where there is stagnation and imbalance in your body. For example; the forehead might be stagnation in the digestive system, acne on the chin and jaw line is most likely hormonal imbalance. If you are experiencing acne, understand where it is occurring and start to explore what your body is trying to tell you! #wellness#oakville#acupuncture#halton#chinesemedicine#tcm#acne#holistichealing#beauty

Nourishing your limbs is not just about "working out", it's about taking care of this vessel we call a physical body. Imagine your body like a vehicle; with any car, your efforts go into making sure it runs well for a long time. Let's face it, no one wants to buy a car that breaks down a year later! Your body is the same way; it is your vehicle in this lifetime, so we need to take care of it! How can you do this?... Stretch your body through yoga, tai chi, qi gong - it feel so good to stretch out!! Get up and move throughout the day - especially if you have a stationary job! Dance to music - whatever type of music that allows you to let go! Get massages or massage your own body with almond oil - the perfect self care ritual. Swim or float in the ocean and feel the breeze and salt water on your skin - if the ocean is not accessible to you any body of water will do! Take moon baths: lie under the night sky in the summer and take in all the glory above. Use natural bristle brushes to stimulate the skin of your arms and legs. Brush your skin regularly to brush off dead skin and to nourish and activate your nervous system. #pospirit#healing#5elements#fiveelements#alchemy#alchemichealing#acupuncture#wellness#oakville#halton#healthcare#holistic#natural#education#community#clinic#oakvillehealth#oakvilleclinic

Animals are incredible creatures who have lessens to share with all of us. Have you ever thought about the types of animals you are draw to... like REALLY thought about it - . Often the animals that we are drawn to either reflect qualities within us or qualities that we are seeking in our life! When we start to pay attention to the animals in our life or animals we resonate with, we can begin to understand ourselves and our unconscious responses to the world aro...und us. Thus, another way to balance the Po is to spend time with animals (pause... is there a better suggestion than that!! ) This can mean spending time with your pets, but also allow yourself to enjoy nature watching and observe how the animals interact and react in nature. This practice will allow animals to teach you about your own animal soul and your animal instincts. Then start to reflect on your own reactions and interactions with the world. Next time you face a challenging situation, imagine how the animal part of you would react and start to find harmony within the body. So maybe you are the type of person to not react or speak your mind - how does that feel in your body? Do you feel like you've been heard, like you are satisfied and can move on? And vice versa, maybe you are someone who tends to react before really reflecting on what you want to say - how does that feel in the body? Do you hold on to how you reacted and go through the "shoulda-coulda-woulda" thought patterns? As you start to do this reflection and searching, you might find that there are some imbalances with how you interact and show up in the world vs how your heart and soul wants you to interact and show up. Make space for all that you feel and experience! #animals#animaltherapy#healing#5elements#fiveelements#alchemy#alchemichealing#acupuncture#herbalist#metalelement#pospirit#oakville#halton#healthcare#wellness#holistic#wholespirit#chinesemedicine#tcm#traditionalchinesemedicine See more

B L A C K L I V E S M A T T E R . To my black sisters and brothers, I am sorry for being quiet for so long.... I am sorry for looking the other way in the past. I am sorry for thinking that not being racist is enough. R A C I S M it’s my business, it’s your business, it’s our business. I believe we can change. I believe in us. I believe in our inherent collective good. I believe that if we can learn to hate, we can learn to love. I believe that despite the fact that our skin shows itself as infinite shades of beautiful, fundamentally inside, we are all the same. We are all members of O N E R A C E - the human race. The quotation in this post is from the book My Grandmother’s Hands: Racialized Trauma and the Pathway to Mending Our Hearts and Bodies by Resmaa Menakem. Please, please, please consider reading this book. It is beautifully and well-written. It will shake you to your core and help you to understand why racism is still happening in 2020. What we can do to begin to heal and overcome it. When we experience trauma, it gets locked into our physical bodies. It gets passed down through generations. Therefore, learning to love and care deeply for the body is the first step to healing. Please R E A D this book. We can end racism. We can make this a better world for each other and for the future generations. Let 2020 be the year where shit it the fan across the board, and we collectively decided that enough is enough. I believe in us. #blacklivesmatter #filipinosforblacklives #acupuncturistsforblacklives #endracism #racism #womenforblacklives See more

@katrinadollano’s magical seed cycling drink! Seed cycling can be used to help balance the production and metabolism of estrogen and progesterone. Two hormones that are very important for the female reproductive system. Possible symptoms of estrogen dominance include:... PMS Irregular periods Fibroids Endometriosis Cystic or lumpy breasts Water retention Weight around the midsectino Hot flashes & night sweats Fatigue Mood swings Estrogen dominance is a condition that exists for three reasons primarily: 1. Estrogen isn’t being properly metabolized by the liver and you end up with dirty estrogen 2. Absorption of xenoestrogens from chemicals in our environment and personal care products. Get rid of anything that has fragrance on the label. 3. Decreased production of progesterone to balance estrogen How to seed cycle: Days 1-14 of your menstrual cycle (starting on the first day of your period) consume one tablespoon each of flax and pumpkin seed Days 15-28 consume one tablespoon each of sesame and sunflower seeds Best practice would be to grind them up each day before taking them. If this isn’t feasible, grind them up and store them in the fridge for up to five days. Or grind them, portion accordingly and then freeze the portions. They will stay good for several months this way. ***NOTE: ground seeds go rancid very quickly, even in the fridge. What if you’re not menstruation (peri or menopausal, or have an irregular cycle) regularly? Start the flax and pumpkin with the new moon and then switch over to sunflower and sesame at the full moon and continue the cycle this way. See @katrinadollano’s recipe for what she calls her magic drink below in the comments. It’s warming for digestion and the Kidneys. The Kidneys dominate reproduction in Chinese medicine. #womenshealth #hormones #estrogendominance #PMS #fibroids #endometriosis #menopause #perimenopause #premenopause #period #thyroid #hotflashes #progesterone #sex See more
