@selenagomez is continuing to use her massive platform to destigmatize and prioritize mental health. Yesterday she announced that shes launching the @rarebeauty Impact Fund, which will raise $100 million over the next ten years to provide mental health resources to those in need. Frequently speaking about her own struggles with her mental health, Gomez revealed in April that she had been diagnosed with #bipolardisorder. Selena has shared that she received the diagnosis earli...er in 2020 after years of struggling with her mental health and seeking various types of treatment for #anxiety and #depression. She explained that identifying and becoming educated on bipolar disorder has helped her better understand herself. I wanted to know everything about it and it took the fear away. At Whats Up walk-in we strive to help you take your fears away! Call us for one-on-one counselling sessions where we can help educate you on your illness (if you have been diagnosed) and will provide some tools and tactics for managing it. If you have no diagnosed illness and still want to talk, you can also call us! Our phone lines are open for anyone up to age 29 who is struggling, sad, depressed, etc., and wants to talk about how theyre feeling. 1-866-585-6486 #whatsupwalkin #mentalhealthTO #youthmentalhealth #bipolar #selenagomez #rarebeauty #mentalillness #toronto

#MentalHealthTips 1: Unfollow anyone on social media who makes you feel like you need to be someone else. 2. Try not to compare yourself with others. 3. Live your life on your own timeline - you dont have to be married at 25 or have a house and kids by 30. Social Media is a lens in which most people present their BEST SIDES, a curated version of themselves. You never know whats happening behind the scenes so dont let Instagram fool you into thinking someones life is better because of their online image. #MentalHealthTO #whatsupwalkin #tiptuesday #mentalhealth #mentalillness #facebookdepression #socialmedia

#ArtTherapy is one of the techniques we use at the @whatsup_walkincounselling clinics. This form of therapy is less formal and allows children to develop social skills and raise self-confidence. Art as a means for healing and communication is highly relevant for children and teens especially for those who rely on their limited language skills to express complex thoughts and emotions. Call us at 1-866-585-6486 to learn more about #arttherapy and to find out how we use it during our counselling sessions. #whatsupwalkin #mentalhealthTO #youthmentalhealth #arttherapytoronto

As leaders of Infant, Child and Youth Mental Health Agencies in the city of #Toronto, we share our collective outrage and sadness at the violent incidents of anti-Black racism that have occurred in the last few weeks. These instances of Police brutality against members of the Black community have shaken our clients, families, communities and organizations. We acknowledge that these events are only the most recent manifestations of systemic anti-Black racism that has existed f...or generations, having devastating impact and persistently traumatizing Black communities. As leaders, agencies, a service network and as a society, we have the responsibility to be active allies in making the changes required to create a just and equitable society. We stand firmly with the Black community and our colleagues to condemn all forms of racism. We recognize racism as a public health crisis that reveals itself in many ways: from microaggressions to physical violence to systemic perpetuation of power and privilege. These societal, structural and individual aggressions have had a significant impact on the mental health and life outcomes of Black community members. We commit to working with the Lead Agency to form a Task Force with the mandate to develop a multi-year road map to make a measurable impact in relation to anti-Black racism. As first steps in this mandate, we commit to provide training to all sector staff, management and boards of directors. We will work towards aligning our sectors programs, policies and practices with best practices in anti-racism and anti-oppression. Externally, we will raise awareness of the impact of anti-Black racism on children, youth and families. We will support initiatives aimed at changing the systems and policies that enable anti-Black racism today, including increased accountability and transparency in systems that have historically oppressed the Black community. We are committed to collective action to address anti-Black racism in our organizations and in our city. Finally, we know the much-needed discussions of the last few weeks may be unearthing new pain for the very communities it is intended to lift up. #BlackLivesMatterToronto @ Toronto, Ontario
SADNESS IS GOOD! Yesterday, a client slid into our DMs to share their experience with calling our #whatsupwalkin counselling phone line. Heres their full review: I called because Ive been having a really rough time lately, I was ghosted by someone I really cared about and about a week or so afterwards experienced a traumatic event which involved racism against myself and my family. Both events triggered a really deep emotional response and brought up a lot of past traum...a and feelings of abandonment, both by other people as well as the system. Ive been struggling with feeling really depressed and disassociating a lot. The lovely councilor I spoke to today reminded me of my self worth, validated my experiences and gave me a safe space to talk through my trauma. She also gave me some ideas to try and use my rumination to my advantage. She told me that "Sadness is good because it forces you to make the changes you need in your life" and helped me refocus my negative emotions. Thank you for the services your provide and for creating an accessible safe space for those of us who need it No matter what issues youre struggling with we can help!
