Wheels Welcome Accessable Community Garden 25.02.2021

With the help of some young lads the wheelchair landing pads were made this weekend. The first one is gunna need a bit more work to get the pavers sitting level but the second one is looking good. Landing pads were made using all salvaged materials, natural clay rather than concrete, left over sand from a neighbours patio project, and the pavers that were donated from a house that was being redevelop. All of this would have been heading for the dump so feelin pretty good abou...t it giving materials a new purpose here, helping make our garden beds safe and accessable. Next project is building the frames to support the planters and allow for better access for people in wheelchairs/seated. If you are interested in getting involved that will be happening next weekend. Would love to have some help moving materials and digging post holes. Comment if you want to come help out See more

I am grateful to be working with this gem of a human. The lead accessability consultant and inspiration for starting the Garden. After many years of gardening together this kiddo was ready to have her own garden and we decided to share it with others too. Finding ways to make a more inclusive space where people with mobility challanges or other accessibility needs could have as much independence as possible is the goal.

Woooohooo things are happening! I had a great crew of helpers yesterday and they were able to move soil around for me and get clay pile moved to make landing pads for the pavers that will help with accessibility to garden beds. I met them while they were busking on Main st. and offered some bucks and dinner if they would come help me with the digging that my body just isn’t up for theses days. I liked em so much I invited them to stay here rather than sleep out and gave em breakfast too. They went on their merry way showered, fed and well rested. I am so grateful for the huge amount of work they did. Hurray for community helping community
