Someone will be at the farm today if there are any last minute tree needs.
Beautiful day at the farm. Last chance to get your tree Saturday Dec 21 and Sunday Dec 22!
Time is running out to get your #christmastree ! Only 10 days to #Christmas #whiskeycreekchristmastree Reposted from @christmascountdown (@get_regrann) - Only 10 days!!
We are open every day until December 22!
Tree of the day: White fir (Abies concolor, a true fir) - Needles: 0.5 to 1.5 inch long, flat, bluish green to dull green, pointed or notched at the tip, good retention - Fragrance: pleasing aroma - Cones: barrel-shaped, 3 to 6 inches long, upright
Tree of the day: Colorado Blue Spruce (Picea pungens) - Needles: 1 to 1.5 inch long, bluish in colour, prickly, square, attached with "pegs" - Fragrance: very fragrant when crushed - Cones: hang down, 2.5 to 4 inches long, papery scales, chestnut brown
Tree of the Day: Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii, not a true fir) - Needles: flat, 1 to 1.5 inch long, soft, dark green to blue green in color with 2 light bands on the underside, radiate in all directions from the branch - Fragrance: sweet when crushed - Cones: hang down... According to a Pacific Northwest indigenous legend (see https://www.naturekidsbc.ca/douglas-fir-and-the-mice/) there was once a great fire in the forest. All the animals began to flee to escape the fire; the birds flew away and the deer and other animal were able to run away. However, the mice with their tiny legs were not quick enough to outrun the fire. They asked the maple tree, the western hemlock and the western red cedar for help, but they were unable to offer help. Then they reached a Douglas-fir who encouraged the mice to climb up its thick, fire-resistant trunk and hide in its fir cones. The mice took shelter inside the cones and survived the devastating fire. Even to this day, if you look at the cones of a Douglas-fir closeup, you can see the little hind feet and tails of the mice sticking out from beneath the scales of the fir cones.

Sadly our main shelter was destroyed by vandals last night.
Post storm... Most of the road into the farm is now clear, just a few more trees to remove. Until next year everyone, all the best for 2019!
Mother Nature has closed us for the season.
Trying to get to the farm this morning, met by a wall of trees.
Due to downed trees and power lines access to the farm is closed. We will keep you updated.
Due to high winds we have closed early today, our wood shed blew away, trees and power lines are down all over the area. Be safe everyone!!!!
