What happened on this day in 1982? Did it mean anything? Apparently, it didn't. "The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees the rights and freedoms set out in it subject only to such reasonable limits prescribed by law as can be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society." ... Am I the only one uncomfortable with this? "Reasonable limits prescribed by law...." To say, the courts, (governments courts, not the People's Court,) can put limits on our rights and freedoms- for example the freedom of expression, freedom of peaceful assembly, the right to life, Liberty and security, and freedom of movement, as THEY deem fit. So in this case, an UNELECTED official Deena Hinshaw can create a rule and force it on us and our Constitution doesn't protect us. There was no democratic process before these restrictions were forced on us. Regardless of whether you agree or disagree with the path of civil disobedience that I've taken in protest, you should ALL be concerned about this. The government can, at their own discretion, impose and restrict our rights and freedoms as long as THEY, (their court,) see fit. This is NOT freedom. This is a sham! Our rights as Canadians should be INALIENABLE!! this is where the real fight resides. Constitutional reform in order to protect us, the people, from tyrannical government. This is something that every Canadian new or old should demand. If we don't have rights that protect us from our government, what rights do we really have? Happy Monday everyone! It's another beautiful day in East Central Alberta. As some of you may have already observed, our dining room has changed a little over the last few days. Our seating capacity has been reduced, we have temporary barriers up between tables, and you will see our servers wearing masks only when approaching you with your food. Every day we hear about more and more people have become sick. Now I know, some of you are thinking "yeah, sick with just the flu,"... but what people are becoming sick with is not the point. I'm not going to talk about recovery rate, or the demographic that's mostly affected, or any of that stuff. What I am going to talk about is something I've mentioned a few times before: personal responsibility. The Alberta government has, so far, said they're not going to shut down businesses again and that there going to leave it to us Albertans to be responsible and take care of each other. So, that's what we're doing. None of us here are scared of COVID. Maybe that's because we're in the least affected demographic. But we do care about our customers and our community! So we've put measures in place to reduce the risk of transmission from our place of business. And we've done this at our own discretion, not on orders. We're not "buying in," or "selling out," we're simply doing what we think is best to protect the health and safety of you, our customers. We're at your service through thick and thin. Good morning everyone! We had a bit of a late start this morning but we've been up and running for awhile now. The temperature sure dropped overnight! I was enjoying the melting snow while it lasted. It seems like mother nature knew what our specials would be today, because they go hand in hand with cold weather! Today only, (maybe again in the future though, who knows!) FREE coffee until 12:00! That's right, FREE COFFEE UNTIL NOON We've been saying for months that we have ...the best coffee in town. If you haven't tried it now is the perfect time. Sweet Potato Pie!

Good morning everyone! What a great Monday morning:) It's beginning to look a lot like fall out there. And feels like it too! We're dipping down near zero first thing in the morning and then back around 20 in the afternoon. That crisp air is nice and refreshing first thing in the morning, gets the blood pumping and prepares me for the rest of the day. The days are getting busier as winter approaches, between getting everything cleaned up and organized at the Whistle Stop Caf...e and ready for snow, and getting my boilers ready for the upcoming season there's not much time left over. I'm sure many of you are in the same boat! One thing there's always time for is a great, home cooked meal that leaves you feeling ready to tackle your next task! Or maybe you're like me and you feel like having a little nap after either way, we can help you out with a great meal here! Or even just a quick coffee! I'm going to finish this coffee and get back to work! Wow, -1 this morning.... With a high of 18! Good morning Alberta the chill in the air is a reminder that is time to prepare for winter. Usually I ignore the pre-snow warnings from mother nature and end up with a foot of snow on my motorcycle! This year will be different, I swear;) we will be doing a pre-winter chore here today, is time to put up a small storage space and get the property cleaned up. Lunch Stuffed peppers with homemade marinara and salad $12.95

Buenos días a todos! Yesterday I was talking with some of my Colombian friends. Things are much the same down that way. They're dealing with frustrating rules due to covid, sagging oil prices, tougher than usual job markets and yes even political division. Colombia is a second world country, the gap between the rich and poor is extreme. In the cities, you can find the most beautiful, exquisite products, huge expensive houses, world class food, (my favorite,) and fancy cars. I...n the country it's common to see small shacks built with sticks and tin, dirt floors etc. A lot of those shacks do have electricity and many have a TV and a refrigerator! You'll see most people riding motorcycles sometimes an entire family of 5 on one bike! The interesting thing is, it seems like people's happiness is less dependant on the amount of money they have and more so on the community they're a part of. I haven't been many places but I think this may ring true across the globe. Happiness and quality of life are mostly influenced by the people around us. At our little cafe here, like many other businesses, we struggle financially all the time! It's stressful, but we get by. This place is, however, a community and family minded place and in turn is generally a very happy place! You'll often find employees here on their time off serving coffee, or hanging out and visiting. Either they're suckers for punishment or this is a happy place to be I feel like it's a happy place to be! If you haven't already visited us, I'd encourage you to try us out. Even if for just a coffee and some conversation.
