I just came across this article, although it is based out of Australia I found it was very useful and practical for anyone suffering, or who has a friend or family member suffering from anxiety or depression. It also focuses on men as a population because our needs as men regarding treatment can require a different sort of outreach to get us to speak freely! Check it out! Feel free to post any comments or send me a message if you want to open up a conversation on this topic! https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au//anxiety-and-depressio

Good Afternoon Everyone, I wanted to take some time to make a post about Balance. When one brings up the topic of Balance it can mean a variety of things. Personally, when I think of balance I am looking at how do I sustain all the important factors in my life to be the best version of myself that I have ever been. This is the type of standard that I encourage my clients to adhere to as well. What factors might make you the best version of your self you might ask? Have you c...onsidered if you are living life according to the principles that mean most to you? For example, Do you value intellectual engagement but end up coming home at night and watching Netflix because you are too tired to engage yourself? Once this process is repeated enough times you end up reporting to friends and family that you do not feel like yourself anymore. This is a common problem that many of us are guilty of and to me, the problem stems from a two-pronged approach where things go wrong. Firstly, we are so engaged in our routine that without proper self-awareness it becomes difficult to even recognize patterns that we do without inputting time for self-analysis. Secondly, we often do not value ourselves enough to recognize that we have needs that we are electing to not meet because we are exhausted from our day to day routines or because we are feeling guilty we have not done enough for another important person in our life. The solution is not an easy one because finding balance in the midst of family responsibilities, work commitments, social commitments, staying active at the gym etc. is no easy task. One major skill that is quite obvious is our ability to say NO to others and prioritize ourselves and what we need above the needs of others. This may seem hard to do but funny enough when we prioritize ourselves first we are actually helping those important people in our network indirectly by managing our own happiness and needs so we can give back to them in the way we want to. Another way of putting this is boundary setting. We are all human beings and we all come with limits and different capabilities. There are often expectations placed on us of what we need to do and when we need to do it. This is a reminder that we can modify the standard to fit our emotional needs in a more sustainable way. Because without sustainability of our well being we will not be effective to the ones we love. Hope this message reaches you at a good time and reminds you of how to rebalance your life so that you can create your own standard for life balance and gain comfort boundary setting. Have a fantastic Sunday everyone! As always I am open to receiving personal messages about any mental health questions you may have or for referrals to any support places you may be looking for! Hi Everyone, Winter is in full swing and I wanted to give everyone a message. The focus of this message will be on growth. The process towards personal growth is a process that involves a lot of commitment and often comes with varying degrees of motivation through each week of our lives.... An important point to make is that each person's standard of growth should be based on an individual standard we have for our self. Comparison is a dangerous process that comes very naturally to us but can have a negative impact on our confidence and well being if your focus on it becomes too great. My message to everyone here is to look at yourself and appreciate your strengths. It's important to use those strengths to your advantage on your quest for personal growth. My other key point is when you practice living in the present and focusing moment by moment you will be in a better position to develop your personal growth plan with a clear and accurate image of your self instead of relying on unfair misconceptions we may have about our self. Happy Saturday and I wish each and everyone of you the best!

I wanted to take the time out to make a holiday post! This time of year comes with so many emotions and really reminds a lot of us of some great times and some hard times. My holiday advice is to remember to not compare yourself to others. It is important to be grateful for what we do have in our lives and appreciate all the important people in our lives who have helped us reach this very point. There is so much value to be added to this holiday season by slowing down the pa...ce at which this season moves so that you are better able to internalize all the amazing things you do have. It is also a great time for self-reflection. I encourage all of you to reflect on this past, week, month or year with kindness so that you are able to gain valuable insight towards making any positive changes you feel need to happen moving forward! I wish all of you the best and I am sending positive energy your way! As always use your support people to help out in the difficult times and if you are finding things more difficult then I encourage you to reach out for more tips! Lastly, things to watch out for in the new year. I will be teaching a seminar at Upward Dog Yoga Studio on Mindfulness Strategies to Reduce Stress. Contact me for more details! I am also launching the new website so take a look at www.whitehousecounselling.com after January and check out the updates!

Hi Everyone, I wanted to take some time out to speak on the value of being non-judgemental for our own thoughts. Every day we have numerous thoughts that we often do not even realize we are judging and telling ourselves not to think about that thing. I am here to tell you it's much more effective to give yourself permission that it is okay to have difficult and uneasy thoughts. The more we practice self acceptance the less impact and influence our negative thoughts will have ...over us!! I hope you are all enjoying October and the change of seasons that is occurring. I'm always here to support questions you have or offer help in any way I can! Don't be shy to message me!

I really wanted to make a post on the value of mindfulness! The process of mindfulness can improve so many things in our lives. It can teach us to appreciate more, it can ground us in the present moment, and it can teach us to accept ourselves more effectively. Many of us know the feeling of our thoughts racing and feeling like life is moving so fast. It feels easy to get caught up on this. Mindfulness is a helpful intervention that teaches us to notice more about ourselves and the world around us and allows us to refocus our energy! I hope all of you are doing well as September comes to a close. Whitehouse Counselling Services is in full swing and is accepting new individuals and families right now!
