Luck was on our side for this session..... this gorgeous Mama booked me 3 years ago for her maternity photos, and missed them as she had her son more than a month early... so, we booked even earlier this time. We need to do better. We need to admit our ignorance, and we need to educate ourselves and our children. We need to do more than posting hashtags and well-meaning slogans. We need to put in the time and do the work. It shouldnt be put on the shoulders of black people to teach us... they are exhausted. I know many of you are Canadian, and many of us live in areas that arent diverse - and that dont SEEM racist. My friends and family definitely are not overt racists, heck- t...hree of my siblings are black. But guess what? Me saying that, isnt enough - it doesnt mean enough. It doesnt mean Im DOING anything. My circle of friends and family are inclusive and have felt like were not a part of the problem. But, it isnt enough to say I have black friends, or I smile at black people. It isnt enough to not be racist ... we need to learn to be ANTI racist. That only comes through time, work and educating ourselves... using our voices not only when someone dies , but as a daily part of our lives. It is hard to know where to start - but there is NO reason we shouldnt. There are webinars to sign up for, books to purchase, accounts to follow. Support the people financially who put out these resources. I have started with two books - So You Want to Talk About Race, by Ijeoma Oleo - it is apparently very straightforward and written from the perspective of a black woman; a great book for white people to understand the role we play in racism. The second is White Like Me: Reflections on Race from a Privileged Son, by Tim Wise. All in all, we need to acknowledge the problem in front of our faces RIGHT NOW- that #blacklivesmatter - the protests- peaceful and non- peaceful... they all mean something. These voices are not being heard... they are fighting for justices they have NEVER HAD. Most of us will never ever understand what that feels like. Black people can no longer fight this fight on their own. Our voices, as uncomfortable as it is to say.... our WHITE voices carry further than those of black people. It is time for us to use this PRIVILEGE to listen, support and fight alongside. Artwork @sacree_frangine

I always love me some in-between moments, and this quick porch session with @fraicheliving was full of them. The littlest was a ball of energy, so I just went with it. My best advice for parents before a session? Dont say anything to your kids... if they have no expectations, perfect! Let it all fall on me... Im good at wrangling the wild ones, and ensuring the energy of the shoot flows how we want it to...
